Very retired. It will never move a track again.

However, there is modern plant working, doing I know not what. They seem to be dumping material from somewhere onto the site of the 1970s opencast. Its very difficult to walk over, or rather through.

I have been waiting for weeks to get over and photograph it, I needed the sun and on a day that the modern plant was not working. There are pics of it on the the web, "Brownhills Bob" etc.

At one time the jib was up in the air and it would have been possible to snap the works with the jib in the distant back ground, I have seen a pic like this, but suspect it has fallen to present position.
Hope it doesn't go for scrap.

I am quoting myself for the simple reason that I now think i have the answer to my own question.

If you look at the photo of Swan works from Pelsall lane you will see that its a multi occupied site and that it is home to Midland Plant Training and Testing.
You will also see the plant at work

All they doing is moving stuff back and forth training drivers!

I can think of a few run in mines in Wales where they could 'train their drivers'

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
