Interesting read.
I have trouble with lights switching on and off for no apparent reason, but this stopped when I finally got to understand the Chinese wiring diagram that came with the timer I bought off eBay.
My avatar is a poor likeness.

True, but it'd be somewhere to keep the hoover, or beer cellar, endless possibilities... an extra cupboard at the very least.

Unless needing to really hide something (bagged up corpse of mother in law?) struggling to see the logic of plastering over it. Or maybe opening it again just inadvertently released the vengeful spirit of a formerly wronged electrician?

You guys are slandering Chinese technology. Shame on you.

Let me ask... Would you buy kit from some company like DMM when for less money from China you can get a "climbing carabineer" that is also a folding knife (presumably it automatically cuts the rope if loads get dangerously high), do you think some outfit like DMM can sell kit like that?

Wonder how big this vault is - and why a room of some sort within or outside the house was missed - unless it either leads into a hillside or the walls are all about 20 feet thick.

I have been thinking this even if it’s 1m by 1m you would realise that it’s missing in your square footage , I am tempted to look on google earth for shape of this house haha ! But a great share and very interesting! Appreciated

Doesn't just happen in old buildings. I worked in a laboratory building that was built in the late 80's. A damp patch appeared in one of the labs that seemed to be coming from under a wall, consulting plans and walking around the building I couldn't locate the other side of the wall, something was missing. I resorted to popping out ceiling tiles and crawling through the void, lifting out another tile from the top I found myself looking down into a walled off alcove kitchen area complete with cupboards worktop and sink still with an old kettle and a couple of mugs. It had just been studded and boarded across to convert a previous office area into another lab. Why they didn't strip out the kitchen and incorporate that space into the new lab is a mystery

I was doing a building conversion job locally (Preston area) in what had been a Victorian era, village Police Station. We discovered a metal plate in one of the walls, removing it we found one of the original barred windows of a cell. The owner wanted it opened up, I pointed out that we had just finished the room on the other side, including repainting. No matter just do it was the answer. It now looks very good and is a talking point for visitors. The room had at some later point been a bakery, so the log burner is in the oven. The doors to the room are the old cell doors, about 4 inches thick solid wood, it was a very interesting job.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
