Hi
Been reading this forum a bit lately since my first (accidental) trip into a mine.
We accidentally walked into Cligga Head mine (just thought it was a cave) and started nosing around, my friend somehow managed to climb up a steep slope at one end before thinking better of it and climbing back down then we looked down the other end and walked in a bit but didn't have any wellies so couldn't go any further (flooded a bit). When I posted on a Cornish explorer group I was promptly told off and warned of false floors and other dangers, so since then I've been doing a bit of research and would really like to learn how to explore mines safely.
Keep finding entrances and shafts in places like Twelves heads (walked into a small manway that lead to a shaft), Botallack (Found three shafts I think and a cave) and St Agnes\Perranporth (Cligga) and really really want to go in/down but honestly have no idea when it comes to shafts and worried about safety when it comes to walk ins.
Is there anybody or a group down this way that can teach me (and maybe a friend) what I need to know to go into these places safely? Would ideally like to go do some with people who know what they are doing (and hopefully make some new friends along the way).

Was going to suggest Carbis Bay Crew website, but it seems a bit temperemental, although it appears to be up now.

I think it just takes its own time loading in the old traditional Cornish manner.

Whilst the dangers of false floors and other hazards are very real and not to be taken lightly I suspect a significant proportion of people on here began by exploring holes they found whilst out walking, I know I did!

Going with more experienced people will definitely help get more out of it safely though 🙂

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
