Hey guys I'm new to the site but I've been reading for a while now and I can't seem to find the relevant information on what I seek!

My back ground in gold is a fair distance from panning natural gold but removing removing gold plate from electronic components with the use of harsh chemicals and refining it to 99.999% 24k gold, so I guess you could say that's where my gold fever came around! I've also done a fare share of mine exploration in southern Spain and now I find myself in north Wales sitting pretty much on a gold seem! And I want in :)

So my question is-is there anyone who can point me in the right direction as to a good hot spot either on the afon wan or the mawddach? I want to head down there in my van for a few days and try my luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys keep up the good work....

Generally, as soon as you start grubbing around in a river, someone from NRW (nee CCW) will come along and try and prosecute you for poisoning fish, plants, algae or whatever else they're especially fond of.

There's a couple of threads on here about panning in mid-Wales if you have a look.

I think the official line is that you shouldn't do it; and that NRW (for which read CCW) have an unpleasant habit of noticing whenever rivers or streams turn a more interesting hue of orange - and then go and track down the perpetrator.
Hello again darkness, my old friend...

Brilliant thanks for the info, I've seen those posts the other day to which led to my confusion on panning in the area, some say its tolerated some say its a no no! Guess the only way to find out is to head down for a walk I gues and see what's going on!

Hi all Im new to the site too! My wife is from Barmouth and Id like to have a nose around a few of the gold mines. Im from a caving background so have no interest in panning, just exploring with a 4 man team.

How do I go about finding the landowner and gaining permission to enter? Theres no register like there is for caves as far as I can see!

Cheers!
My wife is like my caving torch. Bright, she works and I cant do much without her!

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
