I only worry about my battery getting submerged. The rest is fine... (1/2 hour dunk in a bath tests it out well enough for my purposes).

The top-end ones all do these days!

There's this one kicking around as well:

Oh yes!, Interesting.

Also interesting is the claim of 1000 lumens from a single XM-L. Sounds like they use Chinese Lumens as the brightest XM-L is 943 lumens (what I use 12 of in my lamp)

Not as bad as eBay lumens.

I thought the max emitter lumens was the U2 at something like 1050?

Not to mention the XM-L2. Haven't got access to the datasheets at the moment, so I could well have faulty memory.

Chris - What IC's/PWM system did you end up using in the Gloworm? Looking to make my own driver(s), rather than stacking 7135/7150's. I can PWM easily enough (ATTiny), but Stuck/puzzled/overthinking on CC devices.

😞 Yes, you are right. The U2 looks like a mark 2 version which is 1040lumens at 3Amperes! Things not standing still again!

I have the circuits for my design here:

The circuits are supposed to be hyperlinks to a full size version, but the HTML don't work 😠

With a light output such as that, and with reference to the Rude Nora, it ought to be called the F****ng Ada.

I've always liked the look of Biff's lamps, some superb engineering, and he keeps developing them. I also like the idea of a strong battery pack that takes loose 18650s. I suggested the same to Sten years ago. They didn't go for it

This would put me off buying one. Standard 1 year warranty on the lamps, but on the batteries:

Quote:

Although in reality fairly robust (we see very few failures), battery packs / chargers are only covered by warranty if defects in materials or manufacture can be demonstrated to our satisfaction, and limited to a 3 month period from purchase.

I wouldn't buy anything with a 3 month warranty. That's not a pop at Biff or his products. Got a lot of respect for both. I just wouldn't buy something with a 3 month warranty!

Yeah i get it, i guess he doesn't want to formally have the parts tested and rated, leaves him open to claims. There are a few people using them (Nora 2) for diving, having greased the O rings etc. For a dry mine/cave though i think the Edna is reasonable

I thought there used to be info about pressure testing of Nora (not sure if 1 or 2) but yup, I get the impression it's accepted as suitable for diving by users, but not specifically sold as.

I do very much like the look of the Edna :)

I would ignore the 3 month warranty and just quote sale of goods act etc etc etc.

Got up to 6 years IIRC.

I recently got a full refund on some dodgy car bits I got sent 8 months after initial delivery

This has got me wondering. I think that the thing to do is ask him about it.
Why only 3 months?
I give 12 on everything and hardly get buried in returns, I think that the last one was a switch failure last NAMHO.

Don't know the man but I suspect there's no dubious intent there. Know people who have used his lamps for years in foul conditions without issue, they're demonstrably up to the job.

Agreed. I just think it's odd wording.

2 of my caving chums run a Nora and a Scurion. They are very nice lamps. There is something crisp about the light from the Scurion.

....and then everything gets lit up like tesco when I turn mine on.

Bang per buck and after sales backup. RF every time.
