Saw someone using one last night, didn't get a close look at it though.

Well it looks like it survived its first trip into the place that grated the top off the Sten battery of the chap we mentioned to you.

I like the battery pack a lot, always one of the weaker points on most lamps; it'll be interesting to see how well those clips stand up to serious abuse though.

The top-end ones all do these days!

There's this one kicking around as well:

Anyone have a price on these?

Beautifully made, a shame to get them dirty

They do look beautiful - it never fails to amaze me how far and fast lamp technology has developed. In my caving career we have moved from peeing into carbide generators to having computers bolted to our heads.

£425

For comparison the a Scurion Basic is around £305 and the Scurion 700 around £375 from www.starlessriver.com

Never seen a Nora close-up, but it does look beautifully made.

I have just took a look at the Scurions, is it my imagination or are the higher end ones down in price?

The thing is that all of these lamps are beyond the affordability of a lot of people.
Last time I was up at Nenthead I was talking to a chap who had bought a Chinese headlamp and took the front mounting off the headband and pop riveted it direct to his helmet. It actually looked as good as though it had just come off a retail outlet like that. If I remember right it was about 600 lumens max output and cost him about £25.
Apart from the obligatory nuisance 'flashy mode; he was well pleased.

I dont want to rain on other peoples parades but once a lamp becomes plasterd in mud and ochre etc they will all look the same and it will all fall back on reliability, performance, and value for money.

Beware the Chinese!

I think you're right there Roy. I know the Basic was just over £300 last year, but the Scurion 700 for £378 is cheaper than I remember it being.

I can't see why you'd buy a Basic with the plastic battery box and thin wire compared to the Full Fat Scurion 700 for only £70 more

Simon, if memory serves me correct the top 1500 dive model was introduced at £1500. I dont think I imagined this.

I've had planned to buy a top end lamp, but I ended up stcking a custom duo in an oldham head. All in, it cost me about £100 including a 4600mah RC car battery and a digital charger. Battery life is great and it's plenty bright enough for photography etc. I'd never conscider buying a lamp in that sort of price range now!

Horses for courses really innit.

The Custom Duo type inserts are an effective way of bringing old lamps up to date.
Scurrions, Rude Nora's & the like are excellent, modern lamps.

Bottom line with lighting... if it fits your head and your pocket, doesn't let you down and is bright enough for you then it can't be wrong :)

People have their reasons for spending mega bucks on the top spec / top price lights, and I guess they make a lot more sense if (taking the Scurion Dive and Rude Nora 2 as the examples) you're diving, regularly submerging, doing very hardcore caving regularly or are using them on expeditions and want commonality of parts and batteries with other team members.

I do worry about getting my lamp wet. I carry a raptor as a back up and swap lamps if I know im going to get wet. All angles covered!! 😉

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
