I cannot see what the argument is about. The farmer has asked people not to use the track to the quarry, which is not difficult to understand.
And if people will ignore this then the sh*t will probebly hit the fan and everyone will suffer as a result of some selfish tw*t that does not care.

That is a very good point. My car was done over in the Cwmorthin car-park on Dec 24th 1998. Nothing of value knicked, however I'm always nervous about parking there.

Is there any likely hood that the current restriction of one vehicle (with 1 of 4 people in it) will be eased? IE are the land owners adamant it will stay like that, or open to sensible suggestions/compromises in the future?

But that could not be used as an excuse for ignoring the request of the farmer and take your car up to the quarry.

I would suspect that's a matter for Friends of Cwmorthin and not for public debate ;)

To be honest, there is no justification for any vehicular access up to Cwmorthin unless that vehicle is carrying materials or equipment related to maintaining the mine.

The vehicle restriction is in place for many reasons, and it was one we suggested, after a long list of complaints. We have to cross a numbers different plots belonging to not just one Land owner to get to Cwmorthin. Also once at Cwmorthin we are there on the good grace of the landowner. Also the track up is maintained at the cost of that landowner. Having multiple vehicles up there adds to the work he has to do to keep the track in a good order.

Like Vanoored says there is no reason for a vehicle to be up there unless on FOC business.

No. It isn't likely to change anytime soon.
Should it ever change it is only likely to be a slight easment for special events like when timber or heavy equipment is taken up there.

Hymac is exactly right, the legalities are irrelevant to the fact that FOC need to maintain good relations with the landowners.

Anyone endangering those good relations by taking a vehicle up there without permission is either ignorant or stupid and selfish.
A decent sign should cure the ignorant not much you can do for the others.

But there is an alternative for someone that might really want to take a car up to the Quarry.
You could telephone the farmer yourself and ask permission for access.
By doing that you would not tread on anyone's big toe.

Good point, nobody really 'needs' to take a car to the quarry apart from FOC to carry material and equipment to the mine.

I agree - a lot of the time it's just laziness. Last time I did CRTT I went from the carpark by Cwmorthin all the way over to the Croesor adit with my army bergen (it was our ovenight trip) and it was all part of the fun. Understandably FOC need to move equipment up to the mine, and I think the comments about it not being FOC's responsibility to 'police' this matter are misplaced. Clearly it is in FOC's best interests to work with the land owners, as a loss of patience on their part could end things for everyone else.

A little unrelated, I look forward to hearing when the next work days are, as I'd like to lend a hand.
