A recent post on the Facebook Slate Quarry Enthusiasts group includes a photo showing the collapsed remains of the slab bridge at the lake outflow. I haven't been up there recently and hadn't heard about the demise of the bridge. When did it happen?

Whoops, sorry, I had assumed it was a public group, and I'd rather not copy the photo for copyright reasons. However it is taken from the lakeside looking downstream. The left hand side of the bridge is still on its support, but the slab leans down into the stream. The right hand (Wrysgan) side of the bridge is not visible.

Hi Ange

Do you mean the arched bridge near Robin's garden? It looked worse than ever last time we were up there, about three weeks ago? It's been on its way down for a while. 😞

if you open it up full screen you should be able to get the actual URL rather than the standard facebook link

Oh crap I see what you mean! Its actually a public footpath so I'll give GCC a call tomorrow and see if it's theirs. It looks as if part of it has gone. Looks as if the slab is broken? The flow in the river over Christmas was unbelievable....

Didn't one of the slabs get pushed off by flood water a few winters back? I seem to remember talk of it being repaired previously.

I assume that the bridge by 'Robin's Garden' is still closed (my memory is that the clapper bridge being the 'new' alternative route to the western side of the lake). If my memory is right, how do you get to the path to Rhosydd etc now without wet socks?
Been injured while at work and are not to blame?

Get over it.

From the usual carpark bear left (instead of going through the gate and up the rough road) and cross the bridge over the river. Then immediately turn right and follow the faint path up the west bank of the river.

You could always man up?

Was up there earlier, the bridge, to quote some famous flat pack furniture "Requires some assembly" as all the bits are still there, just needs gluing back (Tiny allen key anyone?) ;D

Speaking of the first bridge to Robins Garden, I think that might be on the way down soon, I swear it has gotten worse since I was last up there, only something like a foot wide now that you could walk across.:(

I gather that the clapper bridge has now been reconstructed by the organisers of next Saturday's Ras y Moelwyn.

The channels are now rather narrower, so it'll be interesting to see what happens during the next big flow. I can see the sides taking a battering.

I watched them build this and had a chat with them. Nice guys. They are the same firm who are consolidating the remaining stone walls of Cwmorthin Terrace.

The central pillar is a gabion basket and is quite substantial, much bigger than the original central pillar, so hopefully it'll withstand what the weather has to throw at it.

Fingers crossed.
