I live in an engine house at Kerrow Moor with no known shafts within 500 yards. Does anybody know what mine it is associated with?

There are three mines close by, Old Moor mine and Gray mine occupy the same grid reference and Kerrow Moor mine about 200 yards to the south of that.

The engine house is on the east side of the B3374(about 500 yards away) along with the count house and water driven stamps.

I know there were some shafts on this side of the road so maybe this could be either Old Moor Mine or Gray mine.

This area was also extensively streamed for tin.

So my question is what did the engine house do?

Hi,
Im in Par so not far away, where abouts at kerrow moor is it?

Im sure ive seen a stack at the old clay works rescorla.

Perhaps it worked flat rods?

I know there were shafts in the bugle/higher bugle area but cant offer any further advice other than to check the Hamilton Jenkin maps

Hi tomh,
i think the stack was detached from the engine house because when we dug out for the septic tank we found the foundation stones. The stack is long since gone.

I also found foundation walls to a long narrow building running alongside the engine house. Could this have been the boiler room?

The house is unrecognisable as an engine house (at least from the front) as its undergone extensive renovation works.

I've had a quick search for the maps you suggest but could only find a cd rom so i will wait to see if anyone else offers any information. 🙂

I'm a complete novice at this sort of stuff so please forgive my ignorance but what were flat rods for?

flat rods were used to transfer the power of the engine house to another side, wheal martyn has a very good example of this. Worth a visit if you havent been already
