The tramways around Carnkie were narrow 1ft 8in gauge and were horse drawn except for one engine that was introduced in 1909. This was a 0-4-0 well tank built by Orenstein and Koppel. At this time the system was operated by Basset Mines Ltd but part of the operation had been introduced at an earlier date. The engine was christened “Kimberly" after Captain William “Kimberly” James and driven by a Mr. Nicholas. The engine in the background is “Miner” that ran on the Redruth & Chacewater mineral line.
