It was pointed out to me, that as a regional editor for aditnow, that I should not of been able to enter the competition. Thinking about it, I consider this to be a valid point. As in a way, I can be considered admin for the site.
Therefore, I want this discussed as I feel it wrong to of taken a prize that should of gone elsewhere.

I have just looked at the rules, and the list of contributors!

Rules (Section 5a) states:-

Entries will be judged by administrators of AditNow

Rules (Section 6a) states:-

This competition is not open to anybody directly connected with Aditnow or ABC Powermarine

If that rule is applied strictly it would disqualify several of the entries, not just Clunk's!

I suppose it depends how you interpret "anybody directly connected".

I think the buck for this stops with Vanoord and myself. I wrote this site, Vanoord helps greatly with the administration. This is the sort of level of 'direct involvement' we were refering to.

Clunk is a regional editor, not an administrator, and IIRC only recently became a regional editor. I think suggesting he is directly involved in the site is a bit over the top. Let's be realistic, this is a relatively small hobby and by definition we're all involved in the site in some form. Even 'administrator' doesn't necessarily imply any actual involvement, it's just another user level and means people on that level can make odd changes here and there if they want.

I wasn't aware of any ill feeling about the photo competition juding. A good few people outside of the site (and the hobby) assisted with the juding and the results were unanimous.

Clunk, if anybody is giving you a hard time over being a runner up in a competition that was run for fun on a site that you occassionally contribute to, then please put them in touch and ask them to voice their concerns to me or Vanoord.

Just to clarify one other point there. This seciton of the terms is misleading. The competition was judged by me and Vanoord with assistance of outsiders. It was not judged by anybody on the site either 'involved' or otherwise.

Agreed, we'll make sure that's revised next year in the interests of being clear. On that front, and in case anybody does want to make unfair accusations don't forget that there is a contributors page which credits everybody who has contributed to the site.

I did go to enormous efforts to attract new blood to this competition, including emails to several hundred camera clubs, but the response was very low. Hence the known names in the entries. And I'm confident the best (and truest to the subject) photos won the prizes.

As an aside, if we were being really picky, we'd have to disqualify anyone connected to AditNow - whilch would have included all registered users (who are indeed connected) and given that only registered users could enter, it wouldn't have been a very good competition :)

And let's not forget that the reasons for running the competition were to encourange cataloguing of remains, to try to push the (already very high) standards of photography and FUN!
