The now tried and tested and in most cases trusty Tesco 3Watt AA torch, has now been reduced in power to 1 Watt.
The price however has remained the same..... Beware! only buy the 3 watt model.
Every little helps?............indeed! :curse:

Thanks for this Roy, the last lot were snapped up.

I bought 2 of them and still going strong. If one packs up, I will have something special in mind for it though......

I've got 3, one got rather a soaking and I thought it was dead, after I dried it off it's fine again and has been for a few months.

Shame they've dropped the power.

I'm not sure when they changed them. I bought one when all the fuss initially kicked off about them and it was suberb until Capelcleugh killed it last winter, I then splashed out and bought two in the spring to replace it and they were absolute tripe, failing to shine beyond the light of my caplamp even when I stuck Duracells in them rather than rechargables.

Not a good light, even in the 3W version (if that's what it was).

I'm pretty steadfast in my belief that an LED emitter needs a reflector to work properly and that a plastic cone lens is not sufficient to provide optimal performance.

Comparison with Fenix L2:

If you still have your dead one any chance that you can get it to me to play with?
Of course, the probem is that they are not waterproof.

Still, if you have the old one I would appreciate it, I will be up at Nenthead on the 16th for a few days. You could leave it at the centre for me.

No prob.
Not entirely unlikely that we'll be there that weekend anyway but if not I'll leave it hidden under a convenient rock somewhere if I manage to get up beforehand.

Today i went into tescos bangor and found 2 of the 3watt aa torches at the back of the shelf.so there must still be some out there.the new 1 watt replacements dont look to good to be honest.i know the tesco torch is nothing in comparison to the fenix but for the price thay do the job well as a handy back up light

That's right Jim. These lights were never meant to compete with the likes of the fenix, and so any comparisons to such are really of little consequence.
Tesco torches are cheapo's and for what they are, they still knock spots off an incandescent.
Alternatively, show me a fenix for a tenner and I may change my viewpoint ::)
