Have just been looking back at the photo of the month for the past 12 months and was struck by how good, and diverse, they all are.

Nice work everybody

It's time we had a photo competition or something ;)

Vanoord, hi; Olympus E500 with Zuiko 14-45 lens.
Polarising filter. 14mm setting. 100ASA. 1sec. at f20.
You see it as shot, no edit at all.

One other thing that is immediately apparent in the past 12 months of top rated photos is it's almost a 50/50 split of underground photos and above ground mine / quarry related. And that aside from ICLOK who bagged two, it's been a different person each month.

Agreed. In the past few years, the standard of underground photography has come on leaps and bounds. This is partly thanks to the advent of digital photography making life easier but also because the bar is always being raised, encouraging people that they can always do better.

Some good stuff in there. Not sure I really like the idea of a comptition though. In some ways it encourages an even higher standard which is great of course, but in other ways it can be a bit willy-waving which isn't what it's supposed to be about.

would there be any interest in an exhibition with high quality prints available for sale ?

Agreed! :D

One thing else I'd like to give thanks to is that of how the amount of pics has gone up as well, por ejemplo: last year there was perhaps one or two mines listed in South East England, now we have most of them on here 😃

We're setting one up on Mine-Explorer.co.uk shortly. The idea is to offer a range of print sizes on a range of photos with the profit going to the Cwm fund. Because it would be a bit daft to offer the same photos that are freely available on the website, the ones for sale are being specially taken (and not with toy digital cameras!).

The pics and the gallery will not be branded ME in any way...

That is on the list of new features for AditNow as well (I built a store section aeons ago), with proceeds going to a range of good causes. More duplication 😞 Only I'd intended it to be a gallery from a number of photographers who wanted to contibute rather than just one person's showcase. Of course photographs should be unbranded... who'd want to buy a photo with a web address across it!

Ahh umm that wasnt what i meant by a gallery.
I was thinking of a physical location (I do have somewhere in mind).
Saw some fantastic prints on acrylic a few weeks ago expensive to get done but they look very good.

Sounds an excellent idea MP, everybody asks questions when they see the photos in the calendar etc.

A very interesting idea!
I'm suprised that there hasn't already been a formal request for commercial use of some of the pictures on Aditnow...not mine, I hasten to add!
Postcards is another idea. They do appeal and sell to people who don't want to spend £££ on art/exhibition prints.
What about the Aditnow (coffee table) book of the best 100 pictures?
Where were you thinking of exhibiting MP?

great. I have emailed a friend who runs the local young artists group. I hope to feed back with some news soon.
Electric mountain would be the other place to consider.

I'd agree about commercial use, some of the images on Aditnow are of an excellent standard and I'm sure that extends to other web sites and those images we may never see for one reason or another.

Small prints/postcards - I'm sure there must be a market for those too.

Coffee table book - now there's an idea.

With my recent equipment acquisitions I'm a little closer to achieving some images which could be used for projection. That would be a good type of back drop for your exhibition MP, set the mood etc.

I think with the knowledge we have on this site, It'd also be possible to do small booklets with colour pics about particular mines. So for example those who are experts on the ffestiniog area could do a pictoral booklet about ffestiniog, using pics of Cwmorthing etc.
Or perhaps for Nenthead, or just about anywhere interesting enough for people to want to see pics of.

Thoughts.
We all know how difficult getting these pictures is but the general public probably have no idea. Thoughts as to how to show this would be interesting. Was thinking about maybe a short film with the resultant pic (would be a great practical guide to have on the site anyway)

Although a lot of people are interested in the history, I am constantly amazed at the visual quality of the work here. The calendar works well in this respect. I was thinking of running with this idea and looking for unusual/arty pictures in preference to significant artefacts / things. i.e. photography for the visual impact rather than for documentation. I hope this makes sense to someone else.

I know what you mean Mountainpenguin.
Today I went to a mine whith not much in the way of artifacts, so I spent my time taking weird photos using different coloured plastics over flashguns etc. I'll post them in the next hour or so.
I'm sure people have taken better ones than me.

Btw: I might do a youtube slideshow of photos like this guy has:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xMDEHay7f7Y

Exept I wouldn't use Spanish Music 😞 perhaps welsh, or maybe non at all.
