Aye they been there ages but was just down that way today and noticed past there, a lot of new shale has come in from the sides. Also those rails that you cross just before Luke Hall's sump are in a really bad way compared to what they were ljust a year ago.

I had a very quick wander up to the Old Flatt Crosscut and back (exploration!) on Saturday morning and it didn't seem noticably different.

The collapse with the mangled tub the same as always and I didn't notice anything much different elsewhere.

The rails are no worse either really, they didn't even rest on anything in the middle for a while last winter.

Its been a while mind since I was up there, maybe the rails aren't as bad as they were, it just seemed a bit different thats all. My memory aint too good though I must admit!

I would say those rails have been detached from the top of one of the posts for over a year.

Not that either post is doing anything to actually support them.

The fluffy rot on them is pretty though

The bridge, really could do with getting some new supports, as it will be only time before the existing ones go and someone will end up with a painful crotch or worse.

Should be a pretty easy job if there is any decent lumps of timber lying around somewhere.
Mr Mike

I've got the timber and we have been saying the same for the last 2 years, its one of those...should do it, but.....

Thats something I have wondered also. Its been collapsed as long as I have been down mines which is only 22 months but I wonder if it would be worth having a go at and trying to shift it?

The map i have is from martin critchley's nenthead mines report and is dated 1984 and it shows it open all the way then.
It would make an other interesting through trip if it is accesible from the rampgill side

Definitely something to think about I reckon 😉

Bri and I had an admittedly somewhat lacklustre go at it a few months back with little success. Its only shale though, if you broke it up a bit with a wrecking bar or suchlike you'd soon be through providing you weren't just bringing more down on top of course.

Its a one way trip though, you couldn't get through from Rampgill without it being pre-rigged from Smallcleugh.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
