Here are a couple of photos of a mine in Central Germany. I was travelling from the Harz Mountains south-westwards towards Koblenz and the Rhine Valley.

This was taken in October this year. The mine was working and the headgear wheels going round, but only intermittently. I don't think it was a coal mine as the produce beyond the plant seemed to be stacked up in 1 tonne builders bags. Salt? or Potash?

It's the Kalibergwerk Bleicherode a former Potash mine near Nordhausen in the state of Thuringia in what was the GDR (East Germany) - the surface buildings are now preserved as a museum. It's locate just to the northeast of the town of Bleicherode (lat 51.452423 long 10.598116

Parts of it are used for underground disposal of mining and non-mining waste (e.g. toxic wastes) by a company by the name of NDHE.

The headframes are on von Velsen shafts I and II
