Nothing to be sorry for. As far as I can see you have drawn our attention to what is probably a fascinating video.

Hopefully the ****** will soon be streaming.

Although I did get an email a few days ago saying that they would fix the problem it is still not working.

Don't know if it's the same film, but Dr. Gwynfor Jones showed me a video of a black and white film that showed the Dorothea engine working in about the 1930s. The bit with the engine house in was very brief, but showed a shot of the bob going up and down on the engine house 🙂 Lots more though about the slate quarry and equipment that was fascinating. Well worth a watch.

Don`t think that was the same film but sounds interesting anyway. What I remember of men against death, was the journey of slate from the pit bottom,up the inclined cableway,to the unloading point, and on from there.Aparently there is some story element to it.I thought it was just my lack of computor skills that made me unable to see it anymore, but am quite relieved to know everyone else is having the same problem!

P.S The quarry in the film is Dorothea.

I received an email a little while ago saying the problem had been fixed.

I have just checked, and yes it is all working now. It is interesting to see how the platform moved at the top of the chain incline. There are no views of the beam engine though. Although the steam winder is shown. What a pity the film is incomplete.

I had a 'phone call a short while ago from Mr. Rowlands to say that the links have been re-established. Thank you.
However, this system and its Windows Media player resolutely refuses to play the video clips. I've downloaded the Spiro Lab Telecom Acelp.Net (130) codec and it still won't play. Not sure what the issue is.....oh well!

Gwyn,

I have the same problem here at work. Will try at home.

As it is working for John obviously the files are playable - but need to get to the bottom of it.

Fascinating! I like the manual winching out of the platform. The later PenyrOrsedd ones were electric!

Works on my work system - though the image is terribly small. What a shame. Can you get hold of a copy of the original I wonder?

I'm using Windows Media Player v 10 - if that's any help to those who can't see it.

There is a copy "out there" as I was shown it at a meeting of the Gwynedd Industrial History Society a couple of years ago.

I watched it okay with windows media player. They are small. However, if you click on the icon at bottom right of screen it increases to full screen view. You have to do it for each clip though, you cannot "pre-select" that view.

John,

can you let us know what version of Windows Media Player you are using?

Cheers,

Andy.

P.S. At work I am using WMP V11.

Andy,

It is Version 11. In fact, it is version 11.0.5721.5268 to be completely accurate!

I too am running WMP 11 as part of Vista HP.
When I try to play the videos I get error message COOD10D1 which seems a lack of an audio codec. This codec is indicated to be Sipro Lab Telecom ACELP.net(130) . However, when uploaded and allowed to run, seemingly nothing has changed and the videos still don't work. I've tried a few workarounds, as well as uninstall and re-loading, still nothing... 😢

Just tried to watch clip one again and it is still working okay for me, although of course it might be cached. I will clear my cache and see if it still works.
