Great to see it at last.

Blimey, the narrator sound a lot like the Great Late Oliver Postgate.

Would I be right in saying that the winding engine we get a glimpse of is similar to the one that still lies in Blaen-y-cae up the hill.

Also looked at the other film. Is that Dinorwic?

And finally - what can one do about an angry rock?

The other film was filmed at Blaenau Ffestiniog and was the first "talky" in the Welsh language.

Yes, the winder is similar to that still extant.

Are you sure about the second film? It is silent on the web site (although it is not impossible for a silent to have had its soundtrack removed).

They show a sizeable gallery working. I would have thought that in the early 20th Century Bleneau would be pretty all underground or untopping.

Hmmm, interesting!

I have just watched all of the film clips. There is something very odd there! That is not the film I know as Y Chwarelwr! However, the clip with the family round the table eating is part of that film! You are quite correct in saying that most of the film on that website is Dinorwic, I can even identify a couple of the places shown. If you go to the "Gathering the Jewels" website there is the Y Chwarelwr film on there. I will look for a link to it tomorrow.

The Y Chwarelwr film was featured a while back on S4C as the original final reel was missing and a new replacement was cleverly recreated with modern actors made up to match the original actors and also the modern film was made fuzzy and pale to match the original reels. They made a new soundtrack for the whole film.

That sort of makes sense to me.

Although the quarry looked like Dinorwic, when I first viewed it the street did remind me of Bleneau.

Maybe they filmed in the quarry, and put in a bit of stock footage (from the original film) for home life.

I look forward to seeing the original. And would be interested in seeing the S4C remount.

This is the film I thought it was!

Although they seem to have removed the actual clips! Some are available on U tube.

The reconstructed film is available on DVD.

One place to get it (with docus) is here, there are other places too.

Just saw part of the video online and it is the same film I saw at Gwynfor Jones', but the quality of the frames showing the engine working are so bad as to be barely discernable 😞
