I seem to have a recollection of the series. Was some of it filmed at the Trawsfynydd nuke power station? With a scene with a lot of pipes all around? It must be in the late 1980's?
if anyone has a dvd version of the series, I would be interested in buying a copy.

Simon has one I bought him after he lent me his copy, which I lost. Quite where it's got to, I've no idea...

I will try to see my mate this weekend as he is a Dr Who and film fanatic. He also knows of most film locations in the Ffestiniog area.
I have sent scooty a pm with his tel. no. as he could possibly know the answers to most of the questions.

Having spoken to a mate today I can confirm that filming of the 5 doctors was made at the pit as it was then. Four lads went up to the mine and were allowed to watch the filming as long as they kept quiet.
I have borrowed a vhs copy of 'the five doctors' and will watch it with interest to see if I can recognise anywhere.

This is the photo of Brockham Narrow Gauge Railway Museum I said I would upload.

This view is similar to that which appeared on screen where the train rattles towards the camera (it was vastly speeded up!).

The point partly out of shot in the foreground is the point that the doctor gets his foot caught in.

Whilst climbing on Carreg Foel Gron over the years, I have heard older instructors refering to the quarry over the back as the place where Dr Who was filmed

Yes,

mentioned it a couple of pages back.

That was where the Tardis landed in the Death Zone, Cybermen (excluding the cyber-massacre at manod) and some of the footage of Patrick Troughton and the Brig.

I have banged on about Dr Who locations a bit over the last week. But managed to stop myself hi-jacking the Chislehurst Caves thread by pointing out that The Mutants (Jon Pertwee 1973) was filmed there. And I believe you can see some of the glitter painted on the walls there, today.

Another oft repeated mistake in Dr Who locations in quarries is in SE England.

The episode Deadly Assasin is often quoted as being filmed in Betchworth Quarry. Whilst this is true it is not the whole story. The railway sequences were filmed in Brockham Quarry at the long closed Brockham Narrow Gauge Railway Museum about 2 miles west of Betchworth. The locomotive was one of only two surviving diesels built by Ransome and Rapier of Ipswich. A friend of mine was the driver in that scene with his head wrapped in sacking so his identity would not be revealed.

Been a while biut ...

Done some digging. It appears that this stems right back to before the scenes were filmed. The original film diary for the Deadly Assassin referred to all of the quarries as 'Betchworth Quarry'. Despite a map with the paperwork showing the railway in Brockham Quarry.

Also, through the same source, a nugget come to light about the Five Doctors. Appears they ran out of time at Manod. There, they were supposed to film Pertwee's Doctor rescuing Sarah. They ran out of time. Which is why that scene was filmed at Cwm Bychan - Doctor using Bessie and a rope to haul Sarah up the Gentle Gradient of Doom.
