Hi Folks,

I visited Cligga Mine a few months back but ran out of time and want to visit again.

Previously we accessed the mine via the two portals on the beach level.

I have read that the top level is accessible via a portal along the coast path.

Does it require much of a climb down the cliffs to access or is it readily accessible?

I dont remember seeing it when I explored the clifftop last time??

If you look up "Cligga" in the 'mine search' there's a fair bit of info in the pdf file.

Yea seen that PDF already, so I know theres a portal out there.

Just wanted to be sure it can be reached without ropes.

There’s a few portals up the side of the cliff,1st couple are easy to get to from the beach or traversing round spoil when your about 1/2 way down the miners path.......the top one you need to be a confident climber bearing in mind if you fall it will be broken bones at best

Cheers for replies. yes already been into the two beach portals but I want to access the top and middle levels.

Aware its pretty perilous in places - climbing down to the beach is dangerous enough.

Re traversing the spoil, I take it thats the steep gravelly slope to the left of the beach access path? I dont remember seeing any path, it seemed pretty smooth.

About 1/2 way down the miners path there’s a flat grassy bit,instead of going down you go round to the left,brings you to just above the first cliff side portal......I wouldn’t attempt it in less than perfect conditions,we were there in summer and still took upmost care

If you can find the top level portal, it's very easy to access, and doesn't require any ropework. It can be wet at the start, but overall it's pretty dry. If you're an experienced explorer, you'll have no problems in there. I'd be happy to come along for a trip there, so if you're keen send me a message.
