Hi All,
I went into Cligga mine last summer and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd like to go back in and have another explore, has anyone been in recent and is it still safe after all this crazy weather last winter and currently? (Especially the path down!!!) We scrambled up to the second level and had lunch out on one of the adits. When we went there were red & blue arrows marking the ways, is this still the case? Thank you for the maps on here, it'll make it a lot easier and safer!

Hiya 🙂

Few points to keep in mind at Cligga:

Path down is looking a little more suspect than in recent years. That said I was down there last weekend and had no probs. Worth taking care though!

A big fall has blocked entry to the middle level via the cliff portal. There was talk of clearing it but I've not been up to check. (You can still access the middle level via the lower level portal).

Area is pretty damp with all the rain but other than that seems to be ok!

Hope this helps,
When were you thinking of heading down?

Hey,
Sorry for the slow reply! We managed to go in, we went down via rope from the cliff path down to the middle floor. We went in through the adit. We couldn't find our way down to the bottom level without coming back out and scrambling down the cliff. You're very brave using the path down, we thought ropes were safer!
We did find our way to the middle level from the bottom level, but couldn't find our way back out to the adit on the middle. Due to the tides etc we didn't spend too long searching as we didn't want to get lost!!! Such an amazing mine. Do you know if there is an accessible mine at Porthtowan? I'd love to see a few more 🙂

theres a run of ground in the middle level blocking the way down to 3 (bottom) level just before the big stope , all the levels are accessible via their portals (unless its changed in the last 2-3 months

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
