Blimey, so am I. What a sedentary life I lead; thank God.
The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

Document can be downloaded from this http://www.aditnow.co.uk/documents/Coniston-Copper-Mine/CAT-mines-dive.pdf

As someone whose diving experience extends to 10m depth, I'm very impressed!

Thank you for uploading it!

I read about this a few years back - made my eyes go very wide!

I also had someone contact me via my website if I wanted any sumps or flooded mines diving - this was from a keen Hungarian cave diver who seems to have a liking for mines now. 😮

Yeah
Quite something.
What impressed me about him was what a nice guy he was. No showing of whatsoever.
Very professional which I suppose is how you need to be to stay alive doing such things.
You can only have admiration for such dedicated people.

Yes, as I was reminded earlier today, the empty vessels make the most noise. (Cynics would say that is especially true on internet forums 😉 )

Quite a remarkable venture and extremly impressive. Jeff, do you know if any of the vedeo footage mentioned is accessible anywhere ??

Somewhere in the house I have some of the video he shot.....but finding it? I'll try.

Unfortunately unlike the excellent pictures on this site underwater video is not of the best quality. There soon appears a murk from all the loose rotting timber. He was also only able to take video in the lesser depths due to the pressure (not just the mental pressure!).

One other thing I recall him saying was that from the end of one of the crosscut tunnels he not only saw the Bonser vein but also he could see the cast iron rising main (that you can see in Deep Level tunnel) weaving its way up the vein.

Good comment about "empty vessels" how true.
One amusing thing he says in his book is that when he takes groups diving around the world its amazing how many blokes say to him that they are in the SAS or Special Forces!! He was unaware such a large percentage of the population was so well trained yet were totally unfit and unable to do simple dives!
Bravado and blokes.
