One of my distant kinsmen Cornelius Flint was Mining Agent at Ecton Copper Mine 1760s taking over from a man by the name of Shore who was replaced by the Duke of Devonshire for some misdemenour

Cornelius Flint was previously Agent at Hubbadale Lead Mine near Monyash

He was he son of Rev Joshua Flint of Grt Longstone

Cornelius Flint born 1736 married Mary Lomas of Earl Sterndale at Hartington Parish Church They lived at The Old Vicarage Hartington which was owned by the Cavendish family

His son Dr Charles Flint F.R.C.S. was by the 1830s Medical Officer of Health one of the first such posts created by Staffs Moorland Council when Cholera struck Leek Dr Flint lived at Leek He married Elizabeth Gough of Kendall her brother Charles Gough is immortalised in two poems one written by William Wordsworth Fidelity and the other By Sir Walter Scott Helvelyn as Gough perished at the foot of Red Tarn Helvelyn

Cornelius Flint was a friend of Boulton & Watts I have record of Flint associating with Watts when they modified a similar Steam Pumping Engine to the Newcomen Engine to de water parts of Ecton Copper Mine

I have part of a letter written by Cornelius Flint in my records but it is so faded that it will not copy I also have the original will of Charles Flint and the last of his branch Elizabeth Flint who died in 1905 at Leek

My own branch were for a time resident at Darley Hillside.. My Grand fore bares on both sides of my family including my wifes kin being Mining Agents and co partners at Mines (ie The Royal Oak Matlock) then removing to the Wirksworth area as Agents / partners ie Ratchwood Founder, Ravenstor, Orchard Grove, Thisley, The Bage Mine Bolehill, Bulestree and Moletrap Mines Cromford, Golconda Upper and Nether Mines Griffe Grange, Tenement Chariot and Chance mines, Cromford Moor Mines (and Sough) my wifes 6XGrandfather Benjamin Pearson being Agent he also Agent at The Dovegange Mines, followed on by my 4XUncle Samuel Flint..In th 1650s my 8XGrandfather Henry Coates was Agent at The Dovegange when Sir Cornelius Vermuyden and Sir Robert Heath co owned The Dovegange Mines Vermuyden and my other distant kinsman Major Johannes Conradt Molinus being Overseers of the driving of the Dovegange Sough..
