Whilst out doing a walk of Alport area mines, I spotted a odd looking, man made feature along the footpath next to Alport (SK 21945 64450).
It doesn't plot on any veins etc, and appears to be downstream of Catholes Vein and Crosha Pipe. The only thing it appears to plot on is the line of Alport Sough, although the feature looks more adit like than shaft like.

I only managed to get a photo from the path - didn't feel like hoping over the barbed wire fence / wall with folks watching.

I notice two river weirs nearby, part of a culvert perhaps?

That was my original thought, just seemed a bit strange to construct a short culvert instead of going around the bit of knoll.

I've looked at a few pages of stuff on the area but nothing crops up for that location, not even a mention on the several maps in this lot.

Going by the location, I think what you've seen is the end of the adit to carry water through to either the Broadmeadow or Guy hydraulic engine.

I thought the water tunnel to Guy Engine was meant to be above the Lathkill (a few hundred to the metres east) - although I haven't seen it yet. Howeve, I did wonder if it was something similar for another mine, or an earlier attempt.

The feature appears to be heading southwesterly or southerly, which would head towards Blyth Mine / Hollow Farm area. So that could be heading to Guy Shaft. If there is one to Broadmeadow Shaft, could that be the one above the Lathkill and south of the village?

I think it could do with a revisit to check it a little further, oddly though I was carrying my hard hat and lamp in my rucksack.

My mistake Lee, the feeder to Broadmeadow is to the east, and off the top of my head I can't remember whether Guy was using the same supply. You might be right about it being intended as a top-up for the dam at Hollows farm, there was certainly a supply off the Bradford to the dam. I need to phone Jim R about something anyway so I'll try and remember to ask him.
