Hello folks. I have been exploring abandoned mines and quarries since about 2007, but staying largely off-grid. I mainly explore in my home county of Northamptonshire (with occasional trips elsewhere, usually Wiltshire, Derbyshire and Cumbria). I have been methodically and very slowly re-surveying local mines. I may make these available when the time comes. I am not a fissure-wriggling caver nor trained in SRT as many of you seem to be, so I'm rather amateur as far as many of you are concerned!

To answer the question before it is asked: yes, I do use gas detection ... and promote it!

I have recently been persuaded to join this community by Aditnow user "Down and beyond" as we recently teamed up in local ironstone exploration and research. He also feels you may appreciate some old photos and promotional material from my late grandad's attic ... walking draglines etc. I hope to upload this shortly to my album.

I look forward to contributing to this community and maybe being inspired to travel further afield ... once we are allowed after lockdown!

Welcome to the show, and yes, I'm looking forward to seeing the contents of your grandad's attic! Ironstone mining was pretty big where I came from too (Kimberworth, in Rotherham), but sadly there was never anything more accessible than spoil heaps even in the olden days, and many of those have gone too now.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm just having technological issues uploading the photos so I am contacting the forum helpdesk in a moment and am told a guy called Simon fixes things and will get me up and running! I'll probably post here when they get uploaded.

Hi and welcome to aditnow, if your a mate of Tom's, that is an endorsement in itself.

I cant really second guess what the trouble is with uploading photos, but I will take the plunge and guess its maybe a time out with your ISP?

If photos are uploaded straight to the system its probably a good idea to try and size them down first as this reduces server load. This can be done in Photoshop and probably some others. Failing that, try one at a time.
I am probably off the beam here, but you did say "technical issues".

are you trying to upload it to your personal album? I don't have one so it just throws up an error but I can upload into other mine folders just fine.

Yes, I am trying to upload to personal album as it is not specific to a mine/quarry. It is general interest.

I tried to undertake two tasks:

1- upload photos to personal album - results in "Error - no folder exists for this mine...". Another user thinks I haven't had an album folder created yet as I'm new.
2- Upload a PDF to personal files - results in "Sorry, the page you requested could not be found" after what I consider the upload-pause!

I emailed the info address and will wait to see what the outcome is.

Hi Roy. Tom has spoken highly of you on a number of occasions too, so hopefully we are all good folk! My ISP is quick as hell tonight and I also have them on a small file size (due to the scanner being old!) and tried one at a time. Tom thinks its the system missing a folder. I'll await the official response but your tech suggestion was very welcome. I used to be a bit of a tech whiz as a kid but I'm now becoming old and tech adverse! Especially since my self built PC electrocuted my face twice a few years ago!

Edit: P.S. Your signature had me in stitches!

It could be something to do with the the number of forum postings, I think that there is short probation period or something, Simon will advise.

Are the photo's jpeg?
I believe the only acceptable format is jpeg and pdf for photos and docs.
I'm sure Simon will advise accordingly, there are odd occasions where things like this happen!

The photos are jpeg and the document was pdf. Reasonable filesize too. I'll await your tech wizard to work magic!

I'm new here too and I've got a similar problem uploading a PDF.

Error message just says page not found.

Welcome! Same error! At least it isn't just me being a technical failure! Hopefully they get sorted soon so we can contribute!
