Totally unconnected, but look at this monstrosity:

35,000 lumens (apparently), £10.69 delivered from China, plus it will make you look like one of the bad guys out of the Matrix.

Here we go, example of light painting with TK35.

Lumix LX-3 - 13 second exposure / ISO 100 / F2.5

Unprocessed (other than conversion from RAW and a crop):

[photo]113562[/photo]

Processed version (colour temp raised a bit, a bit more vibrance and exposure put up 1/4 stop):

Note the pretty even lighting - the TK35 has a decently wide beam without a too-obvious hotspot.

If it's anything like the 3 "module" version, it's one under-driven XML and 4 under-driven XPG's.

I'd suggest, maybe 1500 lumens.

Yup! I Suspect 35,000 lumens actually means 35,000 lux. At 1m 😉

Makes a joke out of the Trade Descriptions Act.

and while I am on. It is actually illegal under UK law for websites registered in the UK to not disclose what company or individual are behind them, and they are actually selling goods.

Just bought a 'Lightway' 20W LED torch from Aldi as a backup. Uses a Cree XHP50 chip. Claims 1000 Lm flat out for 7 hrs with a fresh set of 4 Alkaline C cells, 20 hrs when switched to low (25%). It's got an anodised, fairly solid alum body, is IP65 rated and goes from very wide angle to spot. Not tried it u/g yet but looks good. I've had an earlier version which I think claims 400 Lm for about 4 years now and have been using it for light painting and floodlighting / pointing things out when taking groups around. Not let me down - yet, so will give this brighter one a try. The only thing I found dodgy was the attachment of the wristband to the body, changed it out for a small stainless keyring to attach to my lanyard, will be doing same before the new one goes u/g. Looks good value for £14...

In fairness ....i have several of that ilk for walking the dogs and use at work ....

At the price they are fair game IMHO ...for walking the dog etc

YES there claims of brightness are ridiculous BUT no one is paying top drawer prices for them AND i don't get upset when one falls apart (or more likely i lose it)

Horses for courses ....there was once upon a time i thought my Petzl duo was the dogs danglies 😉

And just in case you think your USB head torch may run out on the CRTT, you could always carry one of these ...

Who would have thought a car battery could weigh only 244 grams.

300Ah?

I reckon 3Ah is about where that is.

Could conceivably get 4 18650s in that pack, but the 5V bit slightly confuses me. I suppose it may well not be 5V exactly...

Its very common.
A parallel array of 18650s, 3.7V nominal with electronics that give and take 5V DC through a USB. Charge of a desktop, power a mobile device.

A missed comma gives rise to a lot of seasonal mirth!

Yes, 400Lm for 4 yrs off a set of C cells sounds like I've found perpetual motion... The holy grail of mine exploring - perpetual batteries...

I shot a quick comparison of 5 different lamps last night to see how my newly arrived Jetbeam BC40GT (16v 4WD Turbo Super Dolby Plus Max 5* Premium) stood up.

Despite the silly name, I do like Jetbeam torches which seem to get a fair amount of respect among the geeks on Candle Power Forum, etc. My old Jetbeam DDR26 has hung on a bootlace around my neck on every underground trip I've made over the last few years and is now mostly worn down to the bare metal yet has always been 100% reliable.

🔗113639[linkphoto]113639[/linkphoto][/link]

EDIT:
Edwyn's lamps
Olight R40 Seeker 1100 Lumen Cree XM-L2
Fenix HP12 head lamp 900 lumens XM-L2

As you can see, the new Jetbeam packs quite a punch. Colour is a bit blue compared with the others but easily corrected in Photoshop. I suspect that this is a feature of the XHP50 LED. It takes two 18650 batteries while all the others take a single one. Cost was around 48 pounds from the cheapest ebay seller which seems excellent value.

Both Jetbeams have a stippled effect to their reflectors which give a smooth beam pattern at a slight cost to their ultimate throw. In comparison, the Olight with its shiny reflector gives a tighter spot - great for picking out distant details but less ideal for light painting.

You can use an ordinary high power torch and put a clear plastic bag over the end to diffuse the light. One of my tricks.
