Super bright, for light painting etc I have been looking at the nitecore tiny monster tm06, has anyone used one? Or can someone recommend a good handheld torch? Needs to be mega bright 😉

I've recently ordered a Jetbeam BC40GT so if you can wait a week or five I'll let you know how it stacks up.

Fenix do a 6,000 lumen torch, and being Fenix that will be 6,000 of your actual lumens. But it's not cheap.

Just a silly question:

For how long does it need to be mega bright?

A lot of the latest high lumen lights will have a significant stepdown in brightness after a short time of use. The ones without stepdown will get mega hot. Some of my lights will have a surfacetemperature of 90°C after 15 minutes of static use on highest setting.
And then there are warm white, cold white and cri to consider if you want to use the light for photos especially when more than one light is used.

Minutes at max capacity, just long enough for a long exposure.

You might want to experiment with modding a torch so its just bare emitters for photography, can then be placed behind rocks etc.

And just be aware that mega bright can be too bright for lightpainting photos. 1000 lumen on a 4 second exposure/Iso 100 can be a complete overkill underground depending on the size of the void and the colour of the rock. The lamp should have well spaced setting below mega bright.

yes as said they can be to bright, for light painting I use the ones on the link as they have a nice colour to them and if you unscrew the end end take out the reflector its very easy to paint as you get no hard edges, they have different settings so are ideal for small spaces and even huge chambers, I have lit the big chambers in Rhiwbach with just one of these

Yes, Fasttech are very good, I buy stuff in bulk, but beware long delivery times on single items, they end up on the 'slow boat'.

I have a Tinymonster TM15. It has 3 different brightness settings plus a strobe setting which is actually really good for light painting as it doesn't focus an intense beam.

Hi

I had an earlier Tiny Monster and found the light very yellow in the centre of the beam and sold it on to somebody who just needed an exploration light. If it had been consistent it would have been OK but it gave strange effects.

At the end of ten day a lot depends on the mines you want to photograph. The Fenix TK47 Ultra Thrower is good for tunnels and long chambers where most torches burn out the foreground before the back is sufficiently well lit. Fenix are starting to bring out torches with adjustable focus and this could be the best solution but have not tried one yet. For big chambers I am currently using an Eagletac MX25L4C with a neutral white LED and this is good but still has some yellowing. The ideal solution is an even light and Wiseled were very good at this.

As daft as it sounds my favourite at the moment is a £20 off eBay Chinese job that I wrote a seriously critical hatchet job on this website.

Found water getting in so fitted a waterproof switch.
Tried it with 4 Panasonic Ultra High Discharge (yellow tops) and blew everything, driver circuit and LEDs.

Fitted new T6s, all six of them, and got a better driver board with an inductor off FastTech for about £4, now a fairly good torch.
Now it doesn't nosedive faster than the batteries deplete.

I've used a Fenix TK35 for a while and been pretty happy with it - the beam is sufficiently wide to avoid streaks across photographs.

I'll pop up a photograph later to give an idea of the output.

However... the current version is due an upgrade shortly (probably just after Christmas), which should see output rise from 2,000lm to 3,200lm and that's certainly worth waiting for.

Commercially available, I have a TK35 as well, albeit an older one. Very well done optics, Wouldn't mind getting my mitts on a new one when released.

If you are looking to light paint I would almost certainly be looking for something that zooms like a Lenser or a cheapo Chinese Cree off Ebay, it helps alot.
