Shameless commercial plug mode...

The Rebel 100 version of the StenLight is finally available.

It has two Luxeron Rebel 100 emitters, and (in common with the recently released Rebel 70 version) a new user replaceable cable and new frosted Carclo optics.

I'm still waiting on absolute technical specifications (run times, lumens etc.)

Plug over :flowers:

Simon,

Do you know which Carclo optics it uses (angle / part no), as I have been playing around with different optics for my Retro2's, to try and get the beam tighter, but nothing seems to work better than the 10deg (5deg half angle) ones I use.

Mr Mike.

Hi Mr Mike

Which optics - hmmm one of the bits of info I'm still waiting for I'm afraid, as soon as I get an answer I'll let you know.

As for output, also still waiting. But it could see a tree in pitch blackness over twice as far away as my standard (Lux III) Sten + reflectors could. That's about as unscientific a comparison as anybody could come up with  But it's brighter in the foreground with a much longer throw.

Right a proper answer on the optics.

The Medium Frosted lens is Carclo part number 10195, the narrow ("Tight Frosted") is Carclo part number 10194.

David has the following to say about Rebels + Carclo lenses:

Quote:

Ripple Wide and Ripple Medium look OK with the Rebels, but the Plain Tight beam looks poor with Rebels. Pretty much all the Carclo optics look good with the Luxeon IIIs, but they are made of polycarbonate so the optical efficiency is a bit lower than the PMMA-based L2Optics lenses. Of course, efficiency is a bit irrelevant if the light is not where you want it.

Ah, yes, sorry I've not updated the pages on here with the current StenLight models or prices. So the model shown on here is the old Luxeon III version and old pricing whereas the models being sold are the Rebel 70 and Rebel 100 versions and the prices have changed due to the dollar / pound exchange rate (we've kept rises as low as possible).

If you look at http://www.excellentstuff.co.uk/  it's got all the latest models and prices on. We only have stock of the R100 at the moment; expecting more stock of R70 lamps next week.

Thanks for that info, I wish I could afford one. I love my old Stenlight but I just saw on the site there is a headband for them! I didn't know there was such a thing available until now.
I might have to get one for those other underground explores I do where a helmet is not needed. Cheers

If you've already got an S7 then (unless you want to keep the old one as a spare) there will be an upgrade service in the not too distant future. It'll upgrade an old S7 (Luxeon III) to R100 with new lenses.

Thanks Simon it is nice to see a retailer that wants the best for their customers, not just to sell them the most expensive product.
My wife wants to use my Stenlight and I said she could if I can order a new one for myself ('')
So I have just ordered a Stenlight S7+.
I will post some beam shots comparing the old with the new when I get the 7+
I might get the old one upgraded too if the difference is significant, but I am in Greece at the moment.
Cheer John

Thank you John 🙂 It was sent out to you today.

Also thanks for reminding me that the photos and prices in the lights & lamps section of the store on here were out of date. I've updated them all just now :flowers:

I've posted this on Dark Places after a request for detailed output levels so though I'd post it here as well...

Latest StenLight output levels in lumens:

These are LOW / MEDIUM / HIGH / TURBO without thermal limiting

R70: 4 / 25 / 80 230

R100: 5 / 38 / 130 / 360

(For comparison, equivalent figures for the Luxeon III would be 3 / 12 / 45 / 140)

These are average readings of production lamps, i.e. they factor in light loss due to optics. These figures are deliberately conservative. Peak on the R100 was in the region of 380 and on the R70 was 260.

In practice the flood is brigher and more intense and the beam will penetrate a lot further.

Battery life span is largely unaffected, both the R70 and R100 are more efficient than the old Luxeon III, and the R100 more so again than the R70. Feedback we've had from customers suggests that in practical use High on the R100 is a wee bit brighter than turbo was on the Luxeon III, consequently people are saying they use Turbo less.

Full details http://www.excellentstuff.co.uk/page.asp?id=S7TECHSPEC

Hopefully will have some news about upgrades for old Luxeon III lamps before too long.

Sorry, another product plug, but hopefully will be excused on the grounds that it will be of interest to anyone with an original StenLight.

Excellent Stuff are now able to offer an upgrade service to upgrade the the original / standard Luxeon III version to the specification of the current Rebel 100 S7+

See http://www.excellentstuff.co.uk/StenLight/Lamp-Upgrades/StenLight-Rebel-100-Upgrade-Service/p-69-93-219/

Please feel free to copy this elsewhere if you wish. :flowers:

Simon, that upgrade looks just the thing. Have you a rough idea of how long it takes from sending off to getting it back? Cheers 🙂

Sorry for delay in responding to this BigLoada - realistically (given it's got to go to the States and back) I'd say about 3 weeks. Quicker hopefully.
