Not sure if this is the correct forum area but here we go...

When I bought my Stenlight, there was a spare lens in the box, but there was no info came with it to tell me what the lens was.

Is it a wide or narrow angle lens?

I am a bit confused about the standard lens set up in the Sten.

Is there a wide and a narrow already in the lamp? If so, which is the narrow. the left or right one?

Basically, I want to get more side spill. If there is way and anyone knows I'd appreciate any help! Sorry if this is a bit of a daft question but I really don't have much idea about optics.

Thanks!

Dean

Hi

It's a wide angle lens; 25 degrees.

Standard lenses are 5 degrees and 15 degrees. Therefore if you feel you want a wider spill of light you can optionally replace one of the other two - if you're going to I'd recommend replacing the 15 degree one so you end up with one narrow and one wide.

Easy enough to identify the 15 degree lens; shine it against a wall in the dark and alternately cover one emitter then the other, the one with the wider spill is the 15 degree one.

Full details on the wide angle lense here http://www.excellentstuff.co.uk/StenLight-S7/StenLight-Accessories/25°-Wide-Angle-Lens/p-69-79-129/

You need a 1/16 allen key to remove the front screen; just take care not to overtighten the screws when replacing.

Thanks mate! I will give it a go. I think its a fantastic lamp but I noticed on Saturday when I was underground that I could do with that bit extra to the sides.

Bu the way, I heard there was a headband attacment for the sten. Is this true? I could do with it as there are certain non-mining places I like to go underground but which don't require a hard hat, and it would be good to use the Sten for these as at the moment I have to use a Petzl Myo.

Just superglue a lamp bracket to your forhead.
Cheaper and always there when you need it 😉

But if it's anything like the Centurion one you'll need to hit it with a hammer (or brick) to make the lamp stay on correctly, so best pack some Paracetamol too.
