I am currently looking at offering 'Red Band' 3500 mAh battery packs for Stenlights, as I have been asked about these. This will effectively give a 50% increase in burn time over a new original.

I would like some feedback on two options, both of which are feasible.

#1 Modification to Stenlight lamp by removal of the existing Tamiya connector and fitting an XT60 so as to make the lamp compatible with Fellows power packs

#2 Offering Red band power packs with compatible Tamiya connector so as to directly fit Stenlight lamps.

I will of course have to check cable lengths etc.

I was on a trip this weekend with 2 Sten users who both had to change batteries, which just suddenly died and left them with no light. My experimental 'bat cooker' version of the Dragon lasted the whole 7 hour trip on a small 2 cell 'Red Band' power pack, regardless on being used a lot on full power mode.

....but are the RedBands available yet?
2-cell pack to suit the EcoStar?
My back up pack is still ok but my primary pack will need replacing soon......please.....:flowers:

Personally I would go for the XT60 connector as i've twice had the pins fall out of the Tamiya connectors due to repeated unplugging and corrosion.

Of course the downside to that is you would need your existing spare batteries converting to the new connector at the same time so they are not useless.

The answer we came up with was to use a Fenix battery box which can then be used with whatever 18650s you wish:

Okay, you have to take the batteries out of the case to charge them - but if you're using 18650s in other lights, it can be quite handy to be able to swap around as required.

Looks very good, but surely the connectors are not compatible?

You chop the Fenix cable off and put on the Stenlight one - or any other one you fancy!

It's not a perfect solution by any means, but if you've got 18650s already, then it bring the price down significantly.

That said, it gives the possibility of scrounging 18650s from other people or from your other lights to keep the headlamp going, so it's swings and roundabouts.

While I have your attention, for the benefit of everyone, what is the exact position regarding Stenlights please?

I mean will they be back in production sometime, or is that it?

On the lamp front, as far as I understand it there are two new versions in development.

(i) A more efficient version of the S7+. Currently in prototype.

(ii) A higher output version, the S9. Has been in prototype but may now follow (i) into production.

There seems to have been a series of issues with manufacturing, which was previously contracted out but is in the (slow) process of being brought back in-house.

I don't have timescales or exact details at the moment but have asked for these.

Basically, we're supporting the existing user base with spares etc. and keeping a stock in the UK replenished as required. When the new lamps become available, we'll bring a few over.
