I am making up a replacement charger for someone and have the charger lead which on examination is made up using co ax cable of all things. I need to confirm the polarity assignment, presumably the flat side of the plug is +V.
Can someone confirm?

Here's a photo:

Be warned, you can destroy a StenLight lamp through reverse polarity.

Thanks a million. Its exactly opposite to an XT 60, how wonderful.

XT 60s are marked as well, err, and gold plated terminals, and, err rated at 60 amps. Kinda explains why I use them.

I am trying to provide a useful service to people by offering chargers, conversions, and my own battery packs which use Sanyo 3500 mAh cells. I only make a pittance out of doing this, but eventually will probably lead to the sale of a Fellows Lamp. Whatever

Thanks again.

So no reverse polarity protection. And they are offering AA battery adaptors. tut, tut.

Don't worry Roy, there's at least one more order of those in the offing when my Stenlight battery dies - it may be sooner! 😉

I don't think they offer anything any longer; I'd be surprised if they've manufactured anything in the last 2 years?

If you put a whole load of AA's in with every one completely the wrong way around you deserve to break your lamp. I call it Stupid Tax.

Hence the term "idiot diode" fitted across the power rails to pop the fuse when said event occurs. I had a mate who used to repair a lot of CB radios. When he got one where they had put the foil out of a fag packet round the fuse he used to add another twenty quid on for stupidity.

I have just followed some links from their website and it appears that there are lamps on offer at:

https://www.innermountainoutfitters.com/stenlight-s7-premium-headlamp-system/

Whether there is disappointment waiting for anyone who tries to buy one I dont know.

Yes, they are two shops in the USA who still list the Sten.

For my part I still really like the lamp, it's small and light, and my own was a one-off with 1,000 lumen output. I've still got my original from 2007 as well, and that still works fine.

However 11 years on the caving lamp market has moved on, and Sten were slow to develop their product.

I was the first in the UK to have one. One of the first in the world infact! a Luxeon 3 model :D

I thought it was quite a well made bit of kit generally. The only weakpoints were the cable entry and battery. I wasn't a big fan of the beam pattern but that was just preference, not a failing of the lamp.

I've seen a lot worse lamps over the years. It wasn't perfect no, but I've never seen a perfect underground lamp, and if one existed nobody would buy anything else.
