Nobody has posted in this forum yet, and it's entirely possible that it's has not been noticed so I thought I'd start a thread just to bring it to people's attention.

This forum was intended for discussion of StenLight modifications; uprated emitters, different optics etc.

As the UK importers read this forum you can be assured of a knowledgable response to any questions.

Thanks,
Simon

Board replacement to take it up to Luxeon Rebel, plus a user changeable cable. But it's a bit delayed with the Rebel supply issue :(

Announcements will be made when it becomes availble 🙂

Simon,

Can you tell me a bit more about the Stenlight connectors http://www.excellentstuff.co.uk/StenLight-S7/Connectors-Kit/c-1-69-75/ .

Need some robust connectors suitable for Oldham type cables for an interchangable lamp/battery project.

Are they waterproof & how easily can they be pulled apart (or do they lock with a release catch/clip?)

Was thinking of using Bosch automotive connectors (completely waterproof with the wire clip that has to be squeezed to release them) but they are quite expensive (£5 a pop IRRC).

Info/recomendations greatly appreciated 🙂

Hi Jimbo

Probably the Sten connectors are not the best option for you in this setup. The Oldham cable is much thicker than the Sten cable, the connector isn't waterproof (although that doesn't stop it working underwater, we just recommend people rinse it under clean water afterwards if it ges wet or muddy) and it doesn't lock, it's just a push connector.

It's designed as a lightweight connection as part of a lightweight setup, rather than the most rugged connector possible.

If your Bosch connectors are IP 67 or IP 68 rated then the price you've got isn't that bad.

Cheers for that Simon

Will probably go with the Bosch connectors, they are the ones you find under the bonnet of most German cars, I suppose they have to be quite tough to survive for years in that kind of environment 🙂

The price was from several years ago, but I will check with the local Bosch service centre when I get chance.

Cheers,

Jim

PS Are you still coming to the BB in August, Lot's of Northern mines waiting for you to get lost in (literally in some cases)
