On a similar note Llechwedd is suspending all tours. Just need another 6 months of rain to keep the hydro schemes running flat out.

We did the UG tour and the Quarry Tour last Sunday. Have to say it was excellent. Seen it all before obviously over the years but it was nice to do it with Mrs Sinker and also the guide was brilliant. Older chap, name escapes me. Very good.

….and the cure is simple....just do what Turkey did. They scrapped the 'Turkish Lire' and invented the 'Yeni Turkish Lire'....just chop a few zeros off the end of the number. Bingo! :lol:

I think that's what the central banks have been doing via quantative easing since the 2008 financial crash. Difference is, this time the money is going direct to the workers, who will spend it in the economy.

Quantative easing went to the banks to lend to companies to invest. Possibly in new plant, research, development etc. Or possibly in buying their own shares to inflate the price :angel:

Trouble is we are part of a global economy and its almost impossible to buy just British any longer, apart from food although even a lot of that is imported. Even books are printed elsewhere one publisher I use has the books printed in India

Its actually easier than you think to "Buy British"

Do a little bit of research and you'll be amazed what we still actually DO make in this country.
I agree that most can't fully equip a house and then buy a car and then do a weekly shop using exclusively British products so don't shoot me down please :flowers:

But if you're prepared to do a bit of research, live as if you're back in the 1970s, eat fresh bread, fruit and veg and drive a Morgan then its do-able. Not that there is any need to be so extreme seeing as we are part of the larger European family....

At the moment I am rather enjoying the holiday in spite of everything. Fortunately I can walk out of my front door into more or less open countryside so am getting plenty of exercise and fresh air (until we hit total lock down in which case I feel a new book coming on). I've also taken the decision to stop going underground for the duration even though my current project is within walking distance.

On the bright side social distancing means I don't have to hang about with dubious Belgians ;)

I have completed ten years' worth of work on the L and CR and fortunately distributed it to interested parties while I was still able to get to the PO. If you really do have another book in mind, let me know. I will need something good to read, believe me.

I had been working on a history of arsenic production in the South West; unfortunately that will have to be sidelined as getting out to do site visits is a no - goer. That said Robert Waterhouse (of Tavistock Canal "fame") and I have been seriously talking about doing a new and updated "Industrial Archaeology of the Tamar Valley".

Very sorry to hear that, fingers crossed this passes as quickly as possible and we can get back to normal.

I'm seein a lot of posts from people urging us to holiday locally in the UK once this is over to support the leisure/tourism industry.

Unfortunately I have a sneaking suspicion that we might be asked to restrict/avoid taking leave when things return to normal to get business back on track.
