Bad news indeed Nick. Hope they aren't linked and that this is'nt the start of something bigger.

I reckon if anything is going to let go, it'll be along Rampgill Vein (thru Norpex door) in the vicinity of Rampgill Shaft. There are multiple cracks in the limestone in the crosscut to the shaft which suggest (t me, at least) that a large block of the hangingwall is slowly peeling off into the understope; the horse level bypass level is so badly crushed as to be impassible, and even in VM days there was remediation work to repair crush damage owing to the shift. Have a look at the roof above the Plinth of Doom at the junction of Rampgill Shaft.

should keep future generations of explorers busy!

have a good weekend

Reported that there has been another serious collapse blocking entry to or exit from Proud Flats. Please exercise great caution until this can be checked.

UPDATE : Seems that this might well be a false alarm as Pete reports today that the route through to the ladders up to Proud's is still open.

MORE UPDATE: I have visited the location this afternoon. No recent collapses - the route is open to Prouds flat ladder and beyond. I also walked up to Rampgill engine shaft - no change that way.
My best guess is that the reporter took the RH branch on Carrs Vein at the Hangingshaw -Smallcleugh vein junction.

Someone stirring it 'oop north?

The finest workers in stone are not copper or steel tools, but the gentle touches of air and water working at their leisure with a liberal allowance of time.

Just an honest mistake I think from someone who hadn't been many times.

Saw the photo and wondered if might be up passage to the right, but couldn't find my photo of when I struggled up there many years ago.

There’s no new collapse.
Nick and I had a thorough check yesterday.
Well intentioned false alarm??

On another note, we are now out of scaff after the previous Hangingshaw dig - if anyone has any they can donate, it’d be much appreciated...?!

Leif.

There are dealers selling SH scaff round our way at a reasonable price, 75 pence a foot.
They on eBay, Wednesbury. I have their name on my wall for future projects.
Old motorway crash barrier has possibilities.

We certainly go through A LOT of scaff.
These inconsiderate mines, falling down all the time...
