A very recent shaft collapse on one of the Wheal Friendship Lodes. This is in the middle of a caravan touring park and a couple of months ago many caravans/campervan would be driving over this daily. A good example of how blissfully unaware people (and some owners too) can be about the previous history of a site.

Or Wayfarers Park?
Where there's a mine or a hole in the ground.
That's where I'm heading for that's where I'm bound

Ah, I was looking at a different Friendship.
Bet the Caravan Club aren't too chuffed about that hole!

Takes digging the camping latrine to a new level! Seriously though this could have been potentially serious. Just proves that its not always the wettest winters when these collapses happen. Ticking time bomb.

Nice to see someone has fenced it to account for the thickness of granular (potentially) mobile material.

That should connect into the Penberthy Croft adit system (not deep adit) but the other, extensive one.

I know some people who would quote to do the capping work and would do a very good job indeed. PM if reqd.

The collapse is on a public right of way and I notice an official Council notification of 'footpath closed'. Not sure who is responsible for capping/filling in this case, Cornwall Council or the land owner (or bit of both?). Imagine the site owner will want to remedy sooner than later.

I have always known it as 'Three Ways' touring park (because it is surrounded by a triangular road layout). Wayfarers Park is about 3/4mile away on the main road between Goldsithney and Leedstown. They do look similar though. The one in the photo is on the minor road from St Hilary to St Erth.

No, it's to stop old farts being disturbed by kids.
