In today's local paper:

https://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/18306614.workington-residents-reassured-work-repair-collapsed-mine-shaft/

The only shaft I know of near here is Hope (sometimes called Low Hope) Pit, just under 600 feet to Main Band.

A quick look at old OS sheet- 1864 - suggests, using old field boundaries, that Hope Pit was in next street to south. Wonder if CA have actually located it?

The best thing on the ‘newspaper’ page linked above is the headline “Plan for homes at site of former ostrich farm”. Have the good folk of Cumbria given the previous residents ‘the bird’?

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
