Devon County Council has recently opened a rather splendid new foot / cycle bridge over the Walkham Valley.

Is there any legal reason preventing someone, for example, abseiling from it.

(You will understand that this is a purely academic question)

If the county council is responsible for it, you might hit problems with health & safety / public danger etc.

Apply to the council for permission pointing out that Waterfall Viaduct in Cleveland has been used for years for abseil training without any significant incident.

Yes, I'll have it - what is it?

Similarly, Millers Dale viaduct in the Peak District.

I have a suspicion that there will be something you could be charged with although it might take a bit of research to find it...

Also width of the walkway will matter... if its only wide enough for two people to pass properly etc then you will be seen as a H&S risk to passers by and an obstruction in all likely hood.

Although I think use is limited to permit holders only?

I know exactly which one you are talking about and have asked the question myself. The big question I found was "what would you rig off?"

They might take offence to you installing some rawlbolts into the victorian masonry!

The Castle Motors one (ex Brunel wide gauge) near menheniot has a walkway underneath. It's one I have been very keen on jumping off for a while.

The one I am thinking of is the brand new 2.1 million quid Gem bridge over the Walkham. Made out of welded steel sections - no rigging problems.

I am pretty sure anyone can apply for a permit with the right paperwork, (proof of competence, indemnity insurance, etc)
Although I am not sure who to! (maybe Peak Park)
