Last night on
Rise of the Continents
: Iain Stewart exploring a Bolivian Silver mine - with the aid of high-grade alcohol and coca leaves - can't be bad.
We couldn't manage that for his Peak Cavern trip, but I think some instant coffee was available ;)

I visited the mine at Cerro Rico in Potosi last month. Great place to visit but dangerous. I been down lots of working mines but this was the worst I've seen. Most labour was by hand, including the the drilling. Very hot (40 degrees C), dusty and humid - all at 4,500m altitude. Best bit is buying presents for the miners beforehand including high explosive, fuse and ANFO for USD$2.

Looks good fun, nevertheless. Though I notice no bulges in the mouths of the visitors this time? 😉
