Hi guys , i have just bought a type MC40 and would like to pick your brains on a couple of things
one is how to open it and strip it down ?
two is how to light it ?
and three , as it's a flat wick does it run on parafin or spirit ?

and while you are at it can anyone tell me where i can get the batteries to spark up my type SL
thanks in advance
Andy

Heyup Andy, just PM'd you about this, but for anyone else who's interested...It was a WWII lamp designed for Manchester Collieries. It burned Colza oil & was lit by a high tension spark. Nice little lamp where the base remains permanently attached to the body, & the bonnet unscrews (after defeating the lock :))

To light your SL (Side Lit) hopefully it will still have it's platinum wire. If so it should light from a 3v torch battery...

How many does this make?...
Regards, John...

Hey John it's now 15.5 and counting ' remember i told you about that electric rep sample that you remembered from 1969 ?
well i found a pair of them for sale in total mint condition bearing the Protector badge and where as the base ring on my type 6 one is in brass , these have the bakalite base rings from the MC40 spares like you said i have now rewired them and i am surrounded by lit lamps minus the smell
thanks again for he info
Andy
