Hi ! as i've already posted , i have started to collect Protector lamps
I have a few now and all are in full working condition , except my latest acquisition
it's a 1983 type 6 with brass chimney in stunning condition
trouble is the striker was jammed solid
I decided to strip the lamp and got as far as removing the flint wheel and the spindle it runs on but the problem seems to be the little cog within the lamp base that the striker connects with
I think the teeth might have sheared off it and was wondering if any of you had ever replaced one and just how the hell you get it out ?
Any info would be appreciated
Thanks in advance
Andy

I had a problem where the striker seemed to be jammed. With much help from Morlock on here I got it sorted.

The cog in the base had become de-soldered from the flint wheel pinion shaft. Difficult to describe without photos, but strip everything down as far as possible, then stick a screwdriver in where the striker goes, and the entire base assembley should lever off. Might take a bit of force, If you are still stuck tomorrow I will take some pics to demonstrate.

Don't know where you are Aditaddict but if you are near to or can get it to N Staffs I'll fix it for you.
If parts are needed it may mean a donation to Apedale Heritage Center (mining museum - pay direct to center).
Otherwise, gratis.

Hey thanks chaps for the offers and advise
I'm in north Manchester . I'll try prizing it off tomorrow
If i get in can i just solder it back on (if its ok) ?

Update I have got it out and it had indeed become detached
from the spindle
The spindle was also a bit bent , so i straightened it screwed the wheel back on and i'll re solder it tomorrow

Thanks again
Andy 🙂
