There is presently a lot of controversy concerning an application from Elaine Morman to become a freeminer.
The Forestry Commission have apparently decided to allow this, but it is being challenged by The Freeminers' Association as the 1838 Act only applies to men.

Without wishing to get embroiled in the rights or wrongs of the issue, I thought this letter in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley Review may be of interest.
