National Association of Mining History Organisations annual field meet and conference 2019

This is to be hosted by Cambrian Mines Trust in association with Dr Peter Claughton as lecture program organiser.

Cave Access Ltd will be providing access to mines on land owned by the Welsh Government.

The venue is Llanafan which is close to Cymystwyth and Frongoch, and a short distance only from most field trips. Longest is Talybont at 17 miles. Aberystwyth is 10.
Camping, halls, etc all within a few minutes of each other.

http://www.cambrianmines.co.uk/NAMHO_2019/index.html

Full details on above website which is constantly updated.

Bookings will be by the NAMHO booking website which will be linked to the above. A dedicated domain has been registered NAMHO2019.uk but we are unable to use it because the 'service' provider is updating its system, regardless of the fact that the old system worked OK, the new one does not and has been like it for weeks. Its easily.uk, at the moment unfit for purpose.

I expect the bookings website to be open in January 2019.

http://www.namho2019.uk/  is now up and running.

Not thanks to easily the 'service' provider. I did some checking and found that the domain is registered but on the old system DNS. After a bit of thought I found a way to hack into my account on the old system and point it.

To bring everybody up to speed.

I am working with the NAMHO webmaster to get the bookings website on line.
There are some issues.

I am having trouble with my own system and parts ordered have had to be returned as faulty. A hard drive would not show up in the BIOS tested on 2 different machines. Reported to the seller it was suggested that I try reformatting it.
I recommended a good book on computers to him.

Easily ltd my service provider is so bad they have actually been reported to Action Fraud by one customer. I have email and main domains working but redirects fail, all except Moles grottage!

I am very uneasy about the situation and have just decided to open an account with 1and1 and register some new domains.

Just tried and had #website errors there.

In meantime please note:
The NAMHO 2019 website can be reached from www.cambrianmines.co.uk

So can natural amenities ltd (Dinas)

CMTs NAMHO 2019 website can be reached directly from the CMT website www.cambrianmines.co.uk and is integrated with the official NAMHO bookings website - this will be on line 31st of the month and is currently being updated to this years event by NAMHO webmaster.

Everything else is running like clockwork.
Obviously trips will be modified over the next few months leading up to the event.

Dinner menu is online.
If anyone, Vegans or whatever, want anything adding I will get this done if there is sufficient demand. Hafod have indicated flexibility.

Any questions or queries, its a one stop call.

NAMHO Conferences

I am sorry if this is rather in the theme of "aditnow is a website" but I feel I aught to explain a few things for newbies.

Full event title is "NAMHO Conference and Field Meet", there are, or have been, I believe, NAMHO conferences only. The name "NAMHO Conference " is possibly misleading.

Main trust of the event are the field trips which this year will run over all five days, the "conference" side, actually the "lecture program" runs over Sat and Sun only.

Of the attendees, called "delegates", most are campers who are there to go underground, and by far underground trips make up the majority of the trips.

Where a trip specifies "technicalities" such as SRT, this does not apply to surface trips where outdoor clothing and boots are sufficient, you wont need helmets and lamps. Underground trips will require BCA membership and clothing suitable for the underground together with a helmet with a fixed electric light.

I wont go on any more, its all on the website.

Re website. Successful integration of the official NAMHO bookings website and the CMT one is now achieved and its planned for bookings to go live this coming weekend.

Roy,

To be correct the choice of the event is down to the host Club and certainly conferences have in the past been mainly lectures and very little field meet and vice versa. One conference included a bus tour for the more sedate members who are not "rope swingers"

Mining History is an all encompassing subject and therefore the conference should reflect the wide range of enthusiasm and subject matters whether exploration or research.

The whole point of the event is to allow those researchers to be able to present their material to a much wider and audience that encompasses all.

Many explorers attend the talks and go on field trips, I don't think I have seen you attend many lectures at conferences in the past but I can tell you there have been some excellent presentations at past conferences. The field meets are great and areas where winch meets or special permissions is fantastic. However most of the underground can be done at times outside of this and you are less likely to see a guest lecturer that has travelled over from the USA as happened at the Dublin Conference. In that case the lectures were for one day only and field meets commenced the following day and through the rest of the week with some of us ending up in Belfast

Yes, by a strange coincidence we met her by chance later on in the week at the Cliffs of Moher. I think she went on some of the trips too.

I am not sure if Roy's NAMHO conference/field meet experiences go back many years but I expect they do, like mine. In the past, the event alternated each year from Field Meet only, to Conference only. They were then merged, quite a few years back, so since then both activities took place over the same event. It must have been before 2005 that this happened as that was Surrey-based, and was field meet and conference combined.

Thanks for all this. My attendance does not go back as far as some of you. I think you have answered a lot of questions.

That was Jeanette an interesting speaker , going back further to the Aberstwyth conference their were several speakers from abroad who spoke on the theme of Water Power

My first attendance was in 2007 so I only really remember the current field trips and lectures mix. I did book for 2006 but as I recall had to cancel due to an impressively spectacular episode of food poisoning the week before :(

Really looking forward to this years, every one I have been to has been great
