I'll be around on Friday night, I need to hand stuff over to the person who's taking my Fieldgrove walk on Sunday (having taken him out there in a Thunderstorm on monday....) and it would be nice to say hello to a few people while I'm at it!

I went!

Saw a fair few familiar old faces, and a few new ones too.

ChrisJC - is that Huntingdon as in Oliver Cromwell?

Indeed it is. Although he no longer lives here....

he'd be in a poor state if he did.

Yup. There was a NAMHO conference there a few years ago.
Very good it was too.

Good to catch up with everyone over the weekend. Some cracking trips too. Particularly enjoyed Magpie Sough

ttxela - Glad you enjoyed your trip up Magpie sough, it was always a good trip, which day did you go on - Saturday or Sunday? I last went up in early 1963, I understand that it's changed considerably since then! It brought back a flood of old forgotten memories.

I ended up being around for the Fieldgrove walk on Sunday after all thanks to a blown fuel pump on out horsebox, of which Martin Long was glad as he had someone to do all the talking! I didn't meet AdrianP as he went to a talk instead but he sent his missus along on the walk- hope she enjoyed it! I also tagged onto John Barnatt's Ecton walk on Monday, Neil from Boulby mine was on it too.

Sorry I missed the barbecue but Sunday was my wedding anniversary so the wife and I had a fine meal in the Church Inn at Chelmorton instead....

I was on Saturday's trip. First time I've been there so I'm not sure what's changed, I suspect the collapse that stops you getting to the bottom of the shaft (just after the raise into the levels with the false floors) would be since then.

Good trips into Devonshire on Friday and Masson on Sunday too.

That collapse is post-1996, John Barnatt and a few others got to the shaft on the pre-trip inspection for NAMHO that year but it was in a terrible state then - cheap 1950s timbering! When I went in with PDMHS three years ago we found it had gone then, just beyond the 1996 "danger - do not pass this point" sign.

I suspect the workings you refer to (on Butts vein) have also degenerated significantly since 1963, and the big rockfall which has crushed the ring-arched section in the sough too...
