Just thought I’d put a plug out for the happenings in Porthmadog this coming weekend. Come and see how Cwmorthin’s slate was delivered to the harbour (gravity trains) and empty waggons returned to the quarry. We’re redelivering the first ever successful narrow gauge steam loco, Princess, back to Harbour Station at 8am – 150yrs after she was first delivered to displace the horses that used to pull the waggons. Oh, we’ve got one of those too hauling empties around to show how it was done before steam displaced them. Princess’s 2 brothers – also 150yrs young, Prince & Palmerston will be in steam as well, hauling slate waggons about and passenger trains up the FR and WHR. Staff and vols in 1863 costumes, if the weather holds, the whole weekend will be something to treasure.

If you’re coming, I should be around on Harbour Station as a steward so come and say, ‘Hi’ – I’ll have my name badge on.

Enjoy!!

There will also be footplate rides available on Penrhyn Quarry Hunslet loco Hugh Napier (see link below) at Blaenau Ffestiniog station on Saturday and Sunday. (Free but a donation to charity would be appreciated.)

I'll be on or about the loco Saturday and Sunday mornings/early afternoons.

Hi Dave

Just seen a copy of the loco roster and saw your name!

My new knee is almost fit enough for another trip down Cwm or possibly New Rhosydd. Can you still get as far as the wheel that returned the haulage rope?
