A new event has been added to the Events page.

Event name: North Wales Summer Meet

Date & time: 01/07/2011 at 10:00

Details: Planning stage only at the moment...

Last year's summer 3 day meet was a big success, and was pretty much agreed we'd do it again.

Basing it on the 1st weekend in July, it's before the school holidays so camp sites etc. should be quiet, but the weather should be OK.

Planning stage only at persent:

Ideas / preferences for:

- Areas - whether to base ourselves at Blaenau (last year's camp site was good), or base it in Corris (excellent bunkhouse) or somewhere inbetween (e.g. Dolgellau)

- Trip preference - idea of all slate was mooted (by our hardy Northern explorers who were quite taken by the possibility of a) standing up all day and b) not getting wet), or a mix, all SRT or a mix

- Whether to make it 4 days or stick to 3

Stacks of time to get things sorted, so hopefully we can make it a good one.

I'll probably head out for a trip or 2, but won't be staying over, as I'm local-ish, and already have a 2 day trip planned this summer. I'm up for anything in Slate, SRT or not.

my vote's for a couple of days of SRT, with a relaxing 'stroll' on the last day to reward those hardy folks who make it to the bitter end! where were you thinking of heading? it might be best to choose the campsite based on that. And as for choice of accom- camping is definately best- it means i can get away from all the snoring!

The Ratgoed trip November last year was a cracker, be good to have another look up there whilst the weather is warmer.

Sounds like a fair plan. We have an idea for one days trip though need to look into a few things first.

Camping sounds good. Couldn't fault last years site (bar the showers) but we would have suffered if the weather hadn't been so good so perhaps somewhere slightly nearer a pub and/or an indian?

I'm off to Cornwall for 2 weeks on the 3rd, so if it was local I could make the 2nd for a day trip, but no camping. 😞 As it's only one day for me, I'm not fussy....I'll go anywhere!

Something with a lot of SRT! Just looking into it at the mo, will say more if it looks possible.

Have you northern gents done the Fron Boeth 'through' trip?

Might make an easy afternoon out, possibly have a look at some other things in that part of the world at the same time.

Nope.
Think we'll be happy to rely on local knowledge so if you reckon its a goer I don't imagine that you'll receive any objections.

The book I'm looking at suggests about 20 plus levels possibly including Pant-Mawr. How many connect?

Three abseils worth.

Some of the upper ones might also connect (to each other), we need to have a look at some point.

A lot of the adits are rather damp...

There's some sort of suggestion that there's a connection from Pant Mawr through the hill to Moelwyn, albeit it's not been proven.

Having spent a fairly embarrassing chunk of the day bobbing around in the North Sea waiting for a lifeboat to turn up a damp adit or two doesn't really hold much fear... ::)

Sounds interesting, I'm happy to go with that if everyone else is.

This was a cracking event last year, I look forward to it. And as it coincides with my Birthday, Amber Jack is in order.

If a 'damp' (i.e. up to my neck) is wanted, how about a Bryn Eglwys floor 10 to Lefel Fawr though trip.

Serious route-finding (it's rather overgrown) to find the entrance, chambers, some scrambling, wagons and winches, a shaft to abseil (with water coming in part-way down), more chambers and then a long walk with deep water in places to emerge 5 mins from the parking place.

Your making this 'snoring' sound like fun now!

As long as there is a tub full of ore at the end of every passage and the odd mermaid of the slate, i'll be there.

Any offers over a fiver....

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
