A new event has been added to the Events page.

Event name: Nent Christmas Explore!

Date & time: 28/12/2010 at 10:00

Details: 28th and 29th December for the xmas Nent meet / mini-bash.

Draft plan (shamelessly ripped from Rich's post)...

Day One

Brownley Hill

Round trip for those who want to dangle off ropes and so on.
For those who don't a look around the Wellgill Flats, workings on BH vein and the engine room if an electron ladder is taken for the short climb up.

Evening

Pub

Day Two

Rampgill

Plenty of rises for the acrobatically inclined to clamber about in.
Plenty pretty things for any photographers. Plenty of genuine IA type interest for everyone else.

Event added by: simonrl

Full event: http://www.aditnow.co.uk/events/?uid=104

NOTE!!! For those coming for the two days (a few people are there for a day or so either side of these dates anyway) DATES CHANGED, moved back one day to:

28th and 29th December

I've gone ahead and posted this up just to see how many might be interested. If you are please stick your name down on the event page :flowers: http://www.aditnow.co.uk/events/?uid=104

Original thread here: http://www.aditnow.co.uk/community/viewtopic.aspx?t=4850

If there's must protesting about the dates and more people say they'd prefer a weekend we can shift it, but I wanted to get the ball rolling. I did figure most people would prefer to be back home for new years eve, but I guess we could do 31/01?

There's an extremely slim chance I might be able to make one of those days but certainly not both.

A word of caution re the Brownley trip, whilst a trip into Brownley's darkest depths is undoubtedly one of the Nent must-does it is something of a connoisseurs' trip and not necessarily everyone's idea of a festive jolly. Those who revel in the dubious delights of endless crawls through badly deteriorated shale passages will love it however its not everybody's cup of tea to say the least. I can do you a detailed route description if I can't make it for that day.

Otherwise it looks like I'll be there on the 28th so I can get there early and rig the traverse for you if you like or alternatively a trip into Capelcleugh away from the through trip routes never fails to delight.

Nope. Dry as a bone. No crawls, no squeezes, no shale. Nowt but pleasant hand-in-hand skipping along 8ft high levels.

Honest.

Excellent.

Apart from the hand-in-hand skipping bit

Checked at work and I can make the 29th so long as I don't need to use my last remaining days holiday before then.

If people are determined to do the traverse that day I'll take care of the rigging beforehand and try and think of what variations on the 'normal' route I can come up with.

I'll probably stop over the 28th and force myself to do so again on the 29th given the mention of a visit to the pub.

Any thoughts on where to stop? Cherry Tree Cottage in the village is handy for both the pub and mine and comes complete with fry-up.

I always use the NPHT bunkhouses, either Mill Cottage or the Assay House. £12.50 a night, cooking facilities, showers and bunks. Even closer for the mines.

I'll be there if work don't scupper me.

It depends who's coming and where people have been before, but I would personally choose Caplecleugh over Brownley (neck deep water but the rewards are great)

Hope you (and the others) can make it.

I don't really mind what trips we do.... I've not been to Nent this year 😞 So whatever we do will be tremendous :)

The wetter, more crawly, more shaley and more thoroughly miserable... the more tremendous 🙂

Ah go on man. You've not been to Nent. It is spectacular and well worth a bit of discomfort...

Is it a bit too off the wall or is it sufficiently bonkers to make it worth doing 😉

So epic water / srt / crawl trip the first day and lunch in the ballroom the following day?

We might have trouble getting the string quartet in there though.

Nothing set in stone yet, I know it's a while off, but time will fly and what I could really do with is an idea of:

- who is definitely coming

- who is hoping to come but can't commit yet

- which days (28/29 or 29/30 or 30/31) would suit best

- whether a full on 12+ hour explore one day and something a bit different like the ballroom lunch would go down well; or whether the concencus is that would be a waste of a day's exporation!

I'll only be able to make one day (to keep the missus happy) so when you've decided what you want to do most we'll see if i'm needed to help guide an epic trip, or just to carry the sausages.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
