The waterfall route will be fantastic with snow! all the ice and all, will make for a spectacular photo!

Whose in a wheelchair? Could be piggy backs all the way!

I underestimated the UK's inability to cope with snow... I was holding job interviews today... 90% diddnt show up because of the snow... I travelled on a 80 mile round trip to get to the job centre... the furthest applicant was 6 miles away, the closest 2 miles away... and they were "Snowed in"!!!

I understand if say its over 2ft... maybe a problem in a car... But South Wales gets a sprinkle of dandruff, up north is real snow...

Needless to say, It would take an ice age to hit, with wooly Mamouths popping their clogs everywhere before I think about not leaving the house!

Just spent the last 2 days up in Dinas, Snow all over. Fantastic!

The river was purple in colour though.. some kind of chemical had clearly got in, in abundance. All Ice was Purple alongside, and dead things here and there.

Hopefully with have cleared up by Christmas!

Trip not a complete success. The snow was too deep for my wheel chair, so Matty gave me a piggyback. First we visited the frozen waterfall and took a couple of photos. Matty then gave me a piggyback back to the cars. I was keen to visit the mines, but Matty refused as he was knackered. Being winter, Matty was unable to buy a barbeque, so we made do with a tin of a frankfurters.

I'll be back...when the snow has gone.

Cutting coal in my spare time.

Yes, the snow was beautiful... Not Wheelchairable... shame, I wanted a ride!

Tony says to me "Fancy the Waterfall" to which I replied "Sure, Ill get you up there!" That would have been comical.. on my shoulders... 😉

Aditadict : Yes, Pink stuff reported, and Ive taken a sample if they decide they need it. It seems to have mostly cleared up, but the death and impact remains.

I was up there yesterday. A bit of pink foam still around but it seemed reasonably clear. What we did see in the Mellte in the gunpowder works area were some large salmon leaping a weir! :thumbsup:

Salmon? Wow! Diddnt know there was that kind of fish about!

Yes, Im up there all weekend swinging from the rock (On a rope) Its still a bit Frothy. Ive reported it to the environmental agency, and although it doesnt seem so bad, its still present, and still a concern to me. Sadly, there seems to be no update on the matter.

Was the Pink stuff up that river too? of did you go to the river to the right looking upstream (By the Waterfall climb and between upper and lower silica)?

Only saw a small amount of the pink foam in the river directly in front of the mine. The Mellte was clean as a whistle.

The Sychryd has had some form of foamy pollution for as long as I can remember (1960s).
Apart from Rhigos industrial estate there's also a lot of fly tipping in the trees along the A465, a lot of potential for mishaps with chemicals. 😞

Hi Morlock,
Yeah, those fly tippers, and anyone else dropping litter proper grip me. As you get to the inbetween point between the 2 main silica mines theres always loads of trash at the river bend. Its beyond a joke.

This pink stuff remained for some time, so whatever it was, it was big.

Ive been up there the last few days, and all is clear now, everything has thawed, and hence its all washed away.

Back up tomorrow to follow Tony Oldhams book to find a few places, and finally visit Wills Hole.
