A new event has been added to the Events page.

Event name: Nenthead SRT Trip

Date & time: 07/03/2009 at 10:00

Details: An underground venture round the head of the Nent Valley.
Into Capelcleugh Mine, up the rises into Smallcleugh, then back down again into Rampgill and out to the carpark a few yards from where you started from.

This will be a full day trip for those who don't mind deep water and are confident climbing and abseilling. There is no requirement to actually ascend a single rope but you will need harness, cows tails and descender as minimum kit. There is enough deep water in the Capelcleugh section to make a wetsuit advisable too.

There should be enough time to have a look at some of the flats too and we can decide which bits to take a closer look at depending on where people have already been.

Meet in the Heritage Centre carpark in Nenthead at 10.00am.

Sorry you couldn't make it Simon, it was a great day.

Five people showed up in the end, me, RJV, Chris twigg, Pete Hall and Ben8800. Timberman was kind enough to go into Smallcleugh and rigg Proud's Sump for us then retrieve the ropes which saved us a bit of bother carrying rope.

We made good time and it seemed a shame to come out Rampgill, so we carried on through to Scaleburn and down into Brownley for another dose of deep water and for the shorter among us a short swim, before exiting Brownley and rather cold walk back to the cars. About 6 1/2 hours underground.

It was a great day, thanks again for Sparty for organising it.

Now the obligatory group photo, just to make all concerned cringe.

I've stuck my version of the group picture in my personal album if anyone wants to see it.

And a brief though, aren't we all keen, getting home and straight on here instead of into the bath ๐Ÿ˜‰
