As I recall, pitch 1 was a free hang. How did it come to need re-joining (assuming abrasion was the cause) or have I got it wrong ?

You have it correct - someone has tied an alpine butterfly to avoid a rubbed section of rope.

I suspect we may go armed with a new rope and a pad of rubber...

The first half isn't quite a free hang, d'ya remember we put a 1m rope protector on (a proper one eventually) and below that there was a piece of suspended blue plasticy stuff?

It goes to a free hang just above where you meet that big sticking out flake.

Here is Vanoord going over the edge, you can see where it is likely to be rubbed.

Sparty had a good suggestion: Cae Coch.
There are also the mangenese mines on the Llyn, though I don't know much about what these are like.

Another idea would be to visit a Corris mine.

regards

Rightho, currently believed-correct list of attendees for Sunday (Croesor-Rhosydd):

ben88800
Colonel Mustard
Heb
hymac580c
SimonRL (presumed!)
sparty_lea
Timberman
Vanoord
Wenders

(Barney now not available and trip for Giant to be arranged at a later date - although there probably is a space if you wish)

Saturday (I may be wrong here...)

Colonel Mustard
Wenders
SimonRL
Vanoord
JohnnyM
Pinkey

Saturday will be a technical trip into Cwmorthin with ropework and some new rigging to enable some new descents. If the Colonel has a drill, could he bring it please as we may wish to split into two groups and try to get to the same place by two different routes... 😉

Monday - conjectural list

ben88800
Heb?
SimonRL
sparty_lea
Timberman

Not sure what the plan is - it's the first day of the local regattas and I'm tied up at work 😞 Cae Coch has been mentioned?

Plan is to meet at 10am on Saturday and Sunday in the car park at Tan-y-Grisiau. The forecast seems to be a bit wet, so that may affect Vanoord's desires to spend the night under canvas...

Could anyone with any changes or questions please post below! If anyone else wishes to come along who is not on the lost, the please don't hesitate to ask. :)

Have drill, will travel 😎
I have only one battery though, after an 'incident' during a bolting operation last weekend 😞

I have half a dozen or so of those re-usable rubber sleeved anchors if you want to borrow them?
They are sorta earmarked for other uses but as they can be used time after time its no big deal if you want to use them, need a 20mm hole I think

Are they the ones that came form the chap who came on the smoke flue day Jagman? If so I kept one (think you'll remember) and I tried drilling a hole for it once 😮 By god it was hard work - even with the 36v Hilti!

????????

I will be there on Monday.

Simon - take a 7 or 8 mm bit to drill a pilot hole first, the 20 will then fly in!

I look forward to the Croesor/Rhosydd trip on Sunday. It has been on my agenda for about 20 years now. What do we need to bring? I have a few spare full harnesses at work so if anyone needs one let me know by Thursday evening so that I can bring them from work.
How are we planning to go to Croesor? From the Croesor side up the track from the village? Or over the hill from Rhosydd.
I will try to come on Saturday, but not sure as I am still doing work on the house and I can do a lot more on a full Saturday that in a week of evenings. I will let you know Friday evening. What is your planned route at Cwm on the Saturday?
