I will go along with whichever route is chosen by the majority. If you want to go thru water I will follow as long as you go first. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Are there still spaces on this?

I may ask around and see if anyone else is interested...

Yes, there are still spaces (and that goes for anybody reading this who wants to come along, you're very welcome).

But, Vanoord, please remember it does require insurance.

Indeed - and fortuitously we can offer that as well ๐Ÿ˜‰

Technically yes, i.e. I'll process the application and payment for anybody who wishes to come along and needs insurance, so legally yes, they're covered. However cards will be a couple of weeks since the BCA administrator is away.

Final numbers need to be in tomorrow, and a decision today as to which trip or trips are done. So if you're still looking around for more people Vanoord you'd better be quick!

Is it decided which trip we are doing then?

Just so I know what to pack.

There are 10 types of people in the world.

Those that understand binary and those that do not!

You've got me as a definite haven't you Simon? I'm not fussed about which trip we do.

Quick update....

It was suggested by the GOES people that we do Penmorfa. This means getting a bit damp http://www.goes.org.uk/html/pen_morfa.html  , and then we can optionally split up for those who want to do a bit of rope work. So pack your SRT kit, and bank on getting wet ๐Ÿ˜‰

Will post location meet up etc as soon as I've had confirmation from GOES.

600mm concrete pipe eh?

I may have to find one to test whether I can fit into such a thing! Yikes! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Of course you'll fit through it :)

Penmorfa was actually suggested by GOES as being the best all round

Sounds good to me ๐Ÿ™‚
As for the 600mm pipe, I am getting a few funny looks at work at the moment with a tape measure across my shoulders ๐Ÿ˜‰

Looking forward to it....do they have any idea of how long we will be under?

Cheers

For what its worth I did the Penmorfa trip a few years ago, It wasnโ€™t very wet and the concrete pipe bit was a lot of fun. The GOES people are great and provide little trolleys to lie on. I found lying on my back and using my feet on the roof to propel myself along was best, and worked up quite a speed.
Itโ€™s probably my Black Country ancestry as this was the way that the barges went through the Dudley canal tunnels.

My avatar is a poor likeness.

Thanks Roy, that'll set Vanoord's mind at ease ๐Ÿ˜‰ And remove his excuse for not turning up

Right then, here's all the info.

Meeting at 10AM this Sunday 15th June. Map below:

๐Ÿ”—Personal-Album-1-Image-076[linkphoto]Personal-Album-1-Image-076[/linkphoto][/link]

The entrance is a 600mm diameter, 170m long concrete pipe. Bring kneepads!

The maximum water depth will be 28 inches. No need for wetsuit unless you specifically want to.

Once inside the mine we will have the option of splitting up with those who want a route requiring some SRT taking one route and others taking a different route. So if you want to take the SRT route, bring your kit.

There will be four guides on hand that day so plenty of scope for options.

Look forward to seeing you all there ๐Ÿ™‚

I look forward to the underground trip. Since the water will be over my wellies I think I might just as well wear my old working boots and throw them in the weely bin afterwards.
There are loads of photos on the great orme website which can give an idea what to expect. I am pretty sure I know where the model boat pool is on the West shore. So see you all Sunday morning at 10.00.

Greateful thanks to the Great Orme Exploration Society (GOES) for a great day on Sunday.

In attendance, ben88800, davel, hymac580c, merddinemrys, sparty_lea, stevem, timberman, simonrl and a number of GOES people.

The 170m concrete pipe crawl was as awful as it sounds, followed by nearly a km in water from knee to waist deep, but the workings beyond made it well worthwhile. GOES have certainly put in a fantastic effort into exploring, surveying and opening up sections of this mine and the description of being like a swiss cheese is spot on.

My camera succumbed to the wet and grit and refused to play for most of the day so I only managed four picture. Hopefully Ben and Sparty will be able to fill the blanks.

Somehow (and humble apologies to those who didn't) I managed to bag a trolley for the way out, and 160m of propelling yourself head first, face up, down the pipe on a trolley was so much fun  . The reasoning for the trolley was that we were the last two, but unforunately we managed to leave Sparty and one GOES guide inside the mine. I've a horrible feeling one of us got his trolley as well ๐Ÿ˜ž

I like the way you've illuminated the stopes :D

That could be the new way of getting into deeper mines, accaching yourself to a trolly in a narrow pipe and then shooting down it ๐Ÿ™‚

... and to add insult to injury, also believing we were the last in the party, we took the canoe back to the pipes as well!
