"Out of date" Coastguard (unused) rescue rope is free.

Seems to be Beal 10.8 mm and their storage period appears to be 10 years.

Edit: More likely 5 years as I had it last year and it was in someone elses possession proir to that.

Sorry people, what I meant in the post was that I was fortunate to get it free through a friend of a friend type contact.

I had 150 metres which I use frequently.

There must be a fair number of organisations that regularly retire ropes after X number of years as part of their safety protocol.

Problem is that some are well used/abused whilst others are just stored and cycled without any use, therefore a lot of luck or a little 'insider info' required.

Another problem is that most responsible organisations will try to avoid any possibilty of the rope being re-used for a risk associated purpose, (they cut it up).

You could try an S&M club Ed. They must replace their's when the stains become too obvious...
There's bound to be a few in Cheshire...
